Silver Kettle?

by scruffmcgruff » May 17th, '08, 12:42

Inspired by a recent tetsubin thread, I was wondering; does anyone know where to find a reasonably-priced (if they exist) silver kettle? I guess I'll take a look on the 'bay, but if you have any other ideas...

You should ask directly to Stéphane Erler on his blog
He is very good at finding teaware.

I must admit my own longing for a silver kettle is a result of reading Stéphane's blog; I don't know why it didn't occur to me to ask him! I'll definitely remember that if I don't have any luck elsewhere.

It is always risky to read Stephane's blog. Too many temptations!

I think Stéphane is pretty comfortable with feeding the silver lust: as I recall, he scored Danica from the LA Tea Group her very own 'precious.'

I can tell you for a fact that the "precious" is about 3x cheaper in Taiwan than what was paid. If you don't mind the margins, go right ahead....

You won't find a silver kettle for cheap from any of these middle men. Go buy one through Yahoo Japan auctions -- through one of the deputy service that helps you bid/pay/ship from Japan. They will charge about a total of 15% of the final price (this includes all the fees, pretty much). I've used two that are both quite reliable. If you want more info on these guys, message me.

You can score an ok silver kettle for under $1000. If you want a point of comparison -- both of the ones that recently sold on Hou De should be under $1000 if you buy it yourself. It takes more time and effort, but your selection is much larger and most importantly, you'll save yourself at least a few hundred bucks.
