Silk Road Teas

http://www.silkroadteas.com

My local tea shop sources some of their teas from here, so I was wondering...
Does anyone know anything about the quality of their tea?

Thanks for the help.

I have the Red Peach black, it's very good.

I ordered the Snow Pear Oolong and wasn't impressed, but I didn't try any others.

Quality and freshness seem good and delivery is fast.
But the quanties are rather large as is the price without sampling.

I think Silk Road Teas is the company that used to be owned by David Hoffman, the somewhat controversial character documented in the film by Les Blank All In This Tea.

I never ordered from them.

  • Off topic, according to the film, Hoffman owns a well-stocked Puerh cave.

Yeah, Hoffman sold Silk Road Teas in 2005.

I've not ordered from them, but I *did* spend quite a bit of time perusing their booth at the World Tea Expo. I was decently impressed. They're now on my list of places to order from.

So who's on this list of yours anyway?

I shall have to defer my full answer until later. It's a mental list, and since I'm absolutely wretched with names, I don't want to give any wrong ones. I'll flip through my physical 'Teadex' later. Sorry!

Some of the "high profile" bloggers mention teas from Silk Road in a pretty favorable light. I hadn't ordered from them because the website didn't really accommodate online orders, but that has apparently changed now. I'm guessing that they're pretty much like any of the good vendors - a selection of some really good stuff, with some specialty or another, with some mediocre stuff for variety. I do plan on exploring this hypothesis at some point :)

Hopefully someone can check out a variety of their offerings and report a comparison to some of the other highly respected vendors :)
