Music for Tea

by JD » May 2nd, '08, 19:55

Note: This is really just a sad attempt to advertise my own music. :D

I, a fellow tea drinker, write music sometimes when I'm bored. I'm not sure if all of the songs are for tea drinking sessions, but some are kind of nice. I mostly dabble in trance, techno, electronica, and dream.

You can download the songs free here, though I do sell CDs too for those that have slow internets: http://www.youtube.com/jdharding2/ (updated url)

So what sort of music do you enjoy during your tea sessions? I like Enigma, some Robert Miles, my Myst game soundtracks, the Silent Hill 2 game soundtrack for it's ambient, 'pretty though creepy' music, uhm.. Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2 SegaCD and Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future video game music.. I could go on and on. Mostly lots of "pretty" game music soundtracks 'cause I'm weird like that. ;)

Fun stuff.

I like electronica (several genres, not really caring about the specifics) for many reasons. It's not so much what I enjoy paying close attention to, but it's interesting and entertaining. And there are usually no vocals to distract from anything like meditation, reading, or tea.

Early Sixties, and electronic mostly. I also listen to classical and metal with my tea on occasions. It depends on the type of leaves and my mood. I like many genres, but only some fit my tea-time. I don't listen to music while drinking very often as I am obsessed with the tea-brewing noises and like to hear the rattling of cups echo in my ears.

I favor Oolong a bit, and to me electronic suits that best. :)

Chip Davis's (of Mannheim Steamroller fame) Sunday Morning Coffee and Fresh Aire CDs. Enya. The piano music of George Winston. I'm sure there are others...must think on this...
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

The Eagles! Is there really any other good option? I think not.

Tea and The Boys... gives me a Peaceful Easy Feeling.

I often use generative ambience/music software during the day to create unique soundscapes. there is a wide variety of these available, usually for free from the composers/sound designers that create them. my favorites tend to be the granular synthesis techniques ala CSound, et al that allow me to choose input sources and define compositional parameters.

and sometimes i just play the piano or guitar while drinking tea to amuse myself.

It's pretty much all about amusing myself.

Anything relaxing works for me. Lately though I seem to be listening to a lot of Mazzy Star, Cat Power, and Cowboy Junkies with my tea.
