Chataku swap

by chamekke » Jul 1st, '08, 18:28

Let's talk about swapping chataku (Japanese "saucers" or "coasters") here.

I have an abundance of chataku that I would love to swap for singles or pairs of a different design. Here's what's up for grabs, in whatever combination you like:

(a) Two of the following type. These have an irregular grain, and are 4.25" across - they're among the smaller chataku I own:

Image

(b) Three of these simple round ones, 4.75" in diameter:

(c) Two of these chataku with "stripey" grain, 4.5" in diameter:

(d) Up to three of these "rustic" vegetable-themed chataku. I'd like to keep two of them, but am not especially fussed about which two. Can provide close-ups of the individual designs upon request. These are a whisker over 4.75" in diameter, and the saucer is comparatively thick:

I'm interested mainly in other types of chataku, but will swap for something else in a pinch (e.g. if you have two meoto-yunomi but you only need one, that might be a great swap).

Let the swapping commence :D

Two to swap. 3.5" x 4.5"

Looking for a glossy cherry bark round chataku, or lacquer. (Or links where I could find the lacquer ones, since I'm coming up empty.)

(Holy blown highlights, batman. Crappy work camera again.)

I bought two sets of yunomi from Hibiki-an earlier this year and really only need one cup from each set. That leaves me with two cups I could barter. The one on the left is slightly blue with the maple leaf theme. The one on the right is slightly green with the very romantic matsuba or joined pine needle theme.

You can also see them at the Hibiki-an site.

I would consider trading one cup for one chataku ... I like the first two pix of Chamekke's and I would be interested in one (not both) of Geekgirl's.

I also have one extra vermilion chataku from Hibiki-an. It's very red, very lovely and rather large ... 5" across and pretty deep. I know Geekgirl already has one. Linky: http://www.hibiki-an.com/product_info.p ... cts_id/449

-----------------

I think I could dig up another sort of humdrum chataku that is similar to others I have, but beyond that I would rather send off one of my kidneys than one of my 20 or so newly acquired chataku.

I'd do that trade Salsero. Either cup would be a winner with me, might be a teensie bit partial to the leaf cup.

I also might have a cup to throw in the tradesies in a day or two. Picked up two koi cups on ebay for a good price, might be great or they might make their way into the "may be used by children" drawer. We'll see.

Ahem, technically, they are both leaves ... one Maple the other Pine, but I suppose you mean the broadleaf, the Maple. The Maple is a bit larger, holding 150 ml or 5.1 oz to the brim. The Pine holds 140 ml or 4.7 oz, although I am losing confidence in my kitchen devices for measuring liquids. They seem often to disagree quite a bit with each other.

Say the word and I will mail you the as-yet-unused cup of your choice.

"may be used by children" drawer Very funny, very cute.

This is kind of fun. It's cheap and no stds. We could set up something like the tea box pass. We just mail our teaware around to each other forever. That way we would get to play with everything!

  • No private teaware ownership, all power to the tea peeps!

Do what I do, use a scale. 100 grams of water is 100ml of water. Likewise the ratio for US measurements is ounce-to-ounce.
Life is like a cup of tea, savor it slowly or it will be gone too fast

Of course! Dang, I am such a fool!

Thanks for reminding me.

Salsero, I would love to have the pine-needle cup if it's not already spoken for!

Just let me know which chataku you want, and it's yours. Take two if you like.

Ladies

by Salsero » Jul 3rd, '08, 13:08

OK, Ladies, if you agree...
  • 1) I will send the Maple leaf cup to Geekgirl in exchange for one pictured chataku (those are cherry bark?)

    2) I will send the matsuba (pine needle) cup and the vermilion chataku to Chamekke in exchange for the top two of her pictured chataku.
Whew.

Is that agreeable to both of you?

Geekgirl made her request first, so I will wait for her assent, but - option 2 will be fine with me if option 1 is fine with Geekgirl!

I will interpret "Sounds like a treat" to be the Oregonian equivalent of the BC " I assent," and will mail out the goods ... at this point probably not until Monday because of Independence Day tomorrow. Chamekke, pls PM me your address.
