I'm just wondering how other Zojirushi owners use them on a daily basis, in particular if using
bottled spring water do you change it as often as the manual recommends? Twice daily is suggested.. I try to estimate how much I will consume within a given tea drinking session and come pretty close normally but sometimes there is nearly 1L or so left. I use excess hot water to rinse my teaware after use but I just cant bring myself to dump it straight out every night and I end up carrying over some water day to day and from office to home (my zoji doesnt leave my side

) nearly half the time.
How often do you do descaling and cleaning with citric acid? Mine has seen a bit less then a month of heavy use and there is just barely a visible mineral build up on the inside, the water I use is pretty soft. I notice it has gotten a bit louder when boiling and in keepwarm mode which the manual states as a sign of it needing to be cleaned. I guess this would be directly related to each individual's water hardness.

I use to have a similar type of water boiler a different brand though. It's useful but not functional when trying to control the pour and strength or height of pour during GF sessions. You could use less water for a session by using chinese styled electrical kettle 800cl volume.

The Zoji site says to descale every 1 to 3 months. (See
Here.) Q9 gives a detailed explanation on how to descale.
Personally, I got my 3L Zoji a few months ago and tonight is the first time I have attempted to descale it. My manual is currently missing, but since my Zoji has gotten a bit louder, maybe descaling is what it needs. I use very soft, reverse osmosis water at home so I don't have too many mineral deposit problems. I don't change the water as often as suggested either especially given the amount that I go through daily. Maybe I should try to locate the manual again....

I change the water as often as I drink it, I don't dump out old water unless i'm moving mine. I descale it when it looks like there is a significant amount of buildup. Tends to be about every 3 months. I use tap water in mine.
For descaling I use the actual zoji descaling product. Probably a bit harsher than lemon juice or the like, but i figure hey if they make it for this specific purpose it's probably doing a great job. And it does.
