A Thicker Gaiwan

by Thirsty Daruma » Jul 8th, '08, 00:35

In an effort to round out my teaware to handle all teas, it seems that my thin Gaiwan from FunAlliance just isn't cutting it, heat retention-wise. For those of you with multiple gaiwans, do you find it helpful to have both a thick and thin walled gaiwan for different heat retention capabilities? If so, where might I find a good thick (yixing maybe?) walled gaiwan, in case I want to brew a batch of oolong or pu-erh outside of a proper yixing teapot.

SensationalTeas has a porcelain lined yixing gaiwan that will hold heat better than the very thin porcelain.

Be forewarned -- thick gaiwan = burned fingers.

*dons kevlar gloves*

Okay, maybe I'll stick with handled yixing teapots.
