And how many more is it going to take for you to get the o-cha one?Chip wrote:The Ultimate? It only tool me 9 years to get to that one.
Ah, the Silver Tips Tea Room is about 4 miles away from me! I was quite surprised when I moved back to NY 2 years ago and found that a Darjeeling Tea Estate family ran a Tea Shop in the neighboring townSpace Samurai wrote:Other companies like Rishi and The Silver Tips Tea Room have a lot of direct contact with the Fair Trade Projects they source from.

From what I have read, Makaibari Estate is extremely progressive and has an excellent social conscience. They have done a lot to promote organic and biodynamic farming, so that is cool they are moving into fair trade as well.
In general, I am in favor of goods with a modest premium going to disadvantaged people who helped to produce those goods... I'm no socialist, but I don't think Americans should just sit in an ivory tower and consume 1/4 of the world's resources without giving something back... not to mention, consuming less in general!

I checked out the Makaibari Estate Teas - and copied down their info on shipping charges and three teas I think people here may buy ( Assam, Oolong and EARL GREY!) - I don't know if the idea will interest my church - but they sell fair trade coffee and chocolate - thanks for including the link - I think some one said every little bit might help.
Ditto for me - I'm so impressed with both of you I just gave up talking about it -Victoria wrote:

Definitely saving that one to my wallpaper file.![]()

I had another canned Sencha shot while I was out today; The proprieter asked me if I had remembered to drink it in one gulp like you are supposed to (it is very strongly brewed.) I said - Oh! thats why it tastes like that! . . but as a sometime expresso drinker - it didn't bother me. Not Yum tho.

I don't see it as socialism or even charity. Here in the US we have labor laws that protect us. Mimimum wage, maximum number of hours we can work before overtime, safety protocols. We don't consider this charity, nor do I think it is commonly considered socialims to pay a woring person a living wage. All Fair Trade does is try to establish the same thing for people in countries without these laws to protect them. To me, Fair Trade is what we should have been doing all along.joelbct wrote:I'm no socialist, but I don't think Americans should just sit in an ivory tower and consume 1/4 of the world's resources without giving something back... not to mention, consuming less in general!
