Hey, the exchange rate is great for travel to the US- Always lots of visitors (~1/2 of NYC residents are foreign born), but there has def been a spike in international travel to New York lately... they're everywhere ;)

I have met just one Tea Chat poster in person, at a Urasenke Tea Ceremony Demonstration. Happy to meet more...

::sigh:: I have two good friends in Boulder I should go visit. When is it?

The only festivals we have in the midwest revolve around corn, pork chops, and watermelon.

I don't know if it's the same time every year.

I happen to be proud to come from a state where the measure of the success of a state fair visit is how many foods you ate off of sticks
Life is like a cup of tea, savor it slowly or it will be gone too fast

You are an instigator, my friend. You can ask anyone in the group, I was very well behaved. No air guitar singing and dancing with a tea cozy on my head.

We met at New Age People, which is a very interesting place. They serve tea, coffee, kashi bars, doritos, Recees cups, dried corn, etc . . . you just eat/drink whatever you want and tell them 2 hours later when you check out (if you remember). It's really cool: the only store you can buy all these items together in one stop: rosary, menorah, copy of The Secret on CD, reflexology socks, crystals to rub, aromatherapy, rose colored glasses, subliminal message CDs, polished rocks, statue of Buddha, money attractant roll-on. I could spend days in there.

We had an awesome time telling animal stories, video games, kids, everything. Scarlet Glow, Mr. Scarlet Glow, Mary R, Me, Smells_Familiar & Smellls_Familiar v1.0. Of which I am the old lady of the group. We are all happy about our new tea shop that is just North of our downtown and plan another meeting there soon.

But don't just take my word for it, ask someone else in the group. I may have left out a few embarassing details. Next time we'll take a group picture for posterity so you can see what a party-hardy kinda bunch we really are!
Yeah, I second what she said. Mr. Scarlet Glow would be my boyfriend, Kevin. He is not on TeaChat, but does take an interest in my tea hobby (that and Indy scares the crap out of me... I didn't want to drive there alone).

The Smells_Familiar duo were the CUTEST father and son pair I have seen yet... v1.0 (as augie says) is a spitting image of his daddy dearest, and I'm sure within about 5-10 years we will have another TeaChatter roaming the boards.

I loved New Age People. I ended up buying a mini zen garden and a laughing buddha necklace (which is currently around my neck). As far as the meet, I had an awesome time... even though I am incredibly shy around... well... anyone. Haha. Kevin said he had a great time, also.

I had my camera on me (err, well it was in Kevin's pocket) and I almost asked to take a group picture... but I couldn't get up the nerve to say anything. Some people freak out at the slightest mention of taking a picture, so I wasn't sure what the result would be if I asked for a group photo.

Anyways, we talked about tea at some point... but we just mainly chatted about any topic that came up. It was definitely nice to have tea with a group who enjoys it and are willing and able talk about it (instead of getting the weird looks like I get at home).

I'd say, if you have a chance to meet someone who loves tea just as much as you do, then go for it!

Terrasi - I forgot all about that Tea Festival in Boulder. Last summer was the first I'd heard of it and my schedule conflicted, but this year I didn't even think to look for the info. Rats. From their website, that teahouse looks beautiful.

Geekgirl - Was that the brand new teabrush you posted about the other day? So sorry! Argh, these furrbabies. It's hard to be mad for too long, though, with these little creatures who fill our hearts.

TeaMeets would certainly be interesting.

Despite tea's best efforts, I'm exhausted today.

Thankfully my TeaDay ended better than it started. :D Took a chance on the Monkey Picked Oolong from the box pass. I enjoyed this tea very much--as much as the first time I tried MPO. It's very light but surprisingly flavorful. Hubby liked it, too, so I see it going on the 'To Order' list.

Long and busy day and not quite over.

My last cup was another of the white peony as last evening.
I think this one is one of the bolder of the whites.
Very nice.

Tea Day summary:

So as I'm trying to resolve my mystery health issues, I've been trying to temper my caffeine intake to a point. I drank one cup of half-caf darjeeling this morning, and then sipped on a bit of cold-brewed midori in my water bottle all day. It's very funny that I seem to be much more sensitive to the high quality greens than any other teas, especially when brewed hot. I noticed as I drank from those leaves yesterday, I felt a definite response in regard to increased symptoms of the buzzing/tingling of my extremities and face. I poured off that initial brew and reused the leaves today after ice--brewing in the fridge overnight and I felt much better all day today.

And then I got samples in my mailbox from Sal... thank you!!! Teamasters Baozhong 2-year tree... omg... just as good as everyone has said. I totally loved it... got 6 really good infusions from it and it might not be done. And that should have been the end of my tea day, but I got a call at around 10pm that I had to go back in to the hospital, so I treated myself to another of Sal's samples... Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling. I am lovin' me some Darjeelings lately anyway, and the dry leaf smelled really good. I am really enjoying this one very much, although I find it quite varied from most of the darjeelings I've tried... huge leaves, nice floral bouquet, pale amber liquor, very subtle but complex flavor with not a hint of bitterness and minimal astringency... a very gentle and soothing flavor. And for the moment, I am having no buzzing, mentally or in my skin. Off to bed momentarily... see you all tomorrow.

Sarah
***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

Glad I was able to provide some medicine to support a healer through what sounds like a difficult night.

I've always felt that those Japanese greens have some completely different drug in them. They are a pleasure and an addiction unto themselves. The Chinese greens don't give me that impression, and people seem to be better at taking them or leaving them.

Thanks, Augie and Scarlet Glow, for the nitty gritty. Really sound like a great event! I am so jealous.

I definitely agree, Bai Mudan (one of its many aliases) is the boldest white I ever had. Anyone who says ALL white tea is too subtle, has not had this one.

You know, Gyokuro is supposed to have higher caffeine than sencha. I know I get buzzed by it. SO, I do very small steeps of the Precious Dew Leaf, thus use less leaf. I am using Gyokuro pots that hold around 2 ounces. This might not sound like much, but it has greatly heightened my appreciation and enjoyment of Gyokuro.

You should consider smaller steeps of gyokuro.

And yes, the 2 year Baozhong is really fine leaf. It is possiby my favorite oolong currently.

Kunpu Shincha (yes, still some shincha) from Den's earlier and Kuki Houjicha to finish a very good TeaDay.
