I think they do just the opposite though. Yes, their tea is lower quality and not as good as the stuff that people on this board drink. But it is better than the teabag that someone would grab at the grocery store instead. The lower quality does imply to a certain degree a lower price. It is a hinting, a gateway into the better stuff out there. Especially with as much in samples that teavana pushes on you to try out when you're there they really want to get you to try out tea. Their tea is not the best, it's not always done right, but it's a step in the right direction.
