My teapot finger hurts.

by Dizzwave » Sep 24th, '08, 12:47

It struck me last night, all of a sudden.. A dull pain in my right index finger.
This also happens to be my mouse finger -- and I work on a computer all day -- but I tend to use lots of keyboard shortcuts, and even use the mouse with my left hand as often as possible, to switch it up... Still I assumed right away that it was a mouse thing.
But this morning when I brewed my first pot, upon lifting the pot, there was the pain, and it all hit me! I am developing "Tea Related Repetitive Stress Disorder." Does anyone else have this? Is there a right way to lift the pot that doesn't strain the index finger? Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks...... :)

Mouse much more likely. Keep your wrist straight when using the computer / mouse best you can and do some wrist curls, palm up, and then palm down. Send me a sample of good tea now...

this is unrelated but sometimes i'm worried about repeatedly (almost) burning myself using gaiwans and yixings. i think my fingers might become more numb.

Well, take heart that fingers becoming accustomed to scalding hot water is not a permanent thing. I used to wash dishes in a restaraunt when I was a kid. We used extremely hot water, I think 140 degrees. At this time in my life I could touch things so hot that ordinary people wouldn't stand a chance at holding onto them because of the natural jerk response. Now I can barely hold a hot cup of tea. Any numbness or tolerance or lack of feeling you might develop can be reversed if you refrain from those activities which caused them.
