Do you crave hot beverages?

For general/other topics related to tea.

Do you crave hot beverages?

I haven't actually read it all, but it's tea-related science, so I thought I'd mention it.

Can't get to it. Their site and my browser are terminally at odds.

Can you mention the gist of it?

Basically, people tend to feel a sensation of literal temperature loss when rejected in a social situation. It's kinda neat; we associate social coldness with actual coldness. After such icy social situations, people tended to prefer hot beverages/foods like soup and coffee, so I guess I was kind of implying that us tea geeks must be huge losers. :)

Fascinating!

*laughs* I don't think tea geeks are huge losers, Scruff. In any case, we have a cozy forum to socialize in. ;-)

This does make me wonder though... does the social chill of sorority houses lower their air conditioning bills?

Someone get those scientists over here, I have a new study for them.

I think that effect is more than compensated for by all the hot air that comes out of their mouths during chapter meetings. :)

might be how each responds to the emotional stimulus,
maybe it involves the sympathetic/parasympathetic balance
.... vasoconstriction = feel cold, vasodilation = hot,
....maybe epinephrine,
....cortisol
....blah blah

Craving hot drinks

by treazure » Oct 20th, '08, 15:30

I just finished the article and my reaction is that it has less merit than the deposit of well fermented male bovine fecal material on my garden.

Now had they done research into the obvious fact that we tea drinkers are more intelligent, witty and charming than non tea drinkers, that may have had more merit, IMO.
Jeanne - I never met a tea pot I didn't like.
