Is this a handmade pot?

by zacstill » Oct 30th, '08, 00:15

I got this pot at a local tea shop for 30 bucks. It's pretty hefty and thick walled, and has three feet. I was just wondering if it was handmade, or what method was used to make it. I'm guessing it was partially handmade. I was also wondering if anyone could recognize the characters on the pot. Click for bigger pic

Texture inside the pot.

Characters on bottom of pot. I don't know if this is being displayed right side up or not.

Characters on the inside of the lid. They are the same as the top left and bottom right characters on the bottom of the pot.

I can't answer any of your questions, but that is one nice looking pot! At $30 I'd call it a great bargain.

Who said It was an auction. I offer 6.

To actually help you [unlike the last two.] I'm certain the pot is not slip cast, because the clay is textured. Its not wheel thrown; there are no circles on it and I doubt that that clay could be thrown anyway. Its probably made by hand formed around a template.

I'm glad everyone likes my pot!
hmmm...
pay 29 dollars for teapot...make good tea with it
or
pay 29 dollars for teapot... sell for 6 dollars... lose 23 dollars and make no tea

I choose number one.

Besides, it has a few scratch marks and the lid doesnt fit perfectly. It has alot of nostialgic value though. It is my first yixing pot, and the story behind how I got it is pretty nice. The lid fit doesn't bother me one bit, I know just how to hold it so that it doesn't leak. However, it doesn't like strangers.

In my experience, no pot is perfect. They all require a little adjustment on our parts to their special characters, and that is what makes for a beautiful relationship.
