comfort pu...

by Geekgirl » Nov 20th, '08, 19:40

You know what? I've had a really atrocious few days. Really. f*ck*ng. bad.

Saturday morning, woke up with a migraine. Had two early morning clients, both of whom are impossible to reach by phone on such short notice, even if I had their numbers at home.

Went to work migrainey, meds did not kick in until nearly an HOUR after I cleared both clients.

Saturday afternoon, we were on our way to dinner at the in-laws when we passed a dog who had just gotten hit by a car. Not 20 seconds after that, we were stopped for the light up ahead, and we got rear-ended by a 15 y.o. with a learners permit. It pushed us into the next vehicle, (an SUV.) Our car is totalled. It was a Mazda 3s 2004, and in PERFECT condition. Always garaged, not a speck of dirt or dust inside and only 14k miles. Also, paid for.

Every single body panel, except the roof center panel and the driver's door was damaged. Plus we were late for dinner. Plus, now I have to see the chiropractor. Plus, days of headache, achy sore, stiff...

Stupidly, I actually attempted to work this week, and have canceled peoples' appointments here and there to keep me going. Yesterday, I worked my 3pm session, and then packed up and went home. I STILL HAD PEOPLE ON THE BOOKS. I just totally blanked them out and went home. An hour later people started calling "where are you?" I said "what day is this?"

Then, we have the car taken to what we think is one of the most highly regarded body shops in town (Leif's Auto Collision Center "the finest in collision repair"), for the estimate to determine if the car is actually totaled or not. Leif's declares it totaled on Monday afternoon, then refuses to give us the release paper so it can be towed away. They literally held our car hostage, and now want to charge us (and the insurance company) for 3 days of "storage" fees. Extortion. I've been researching this company this afternoon, and have discovered that these kinds of business practices are routine for them. Wish I had known before...

Today, we finally get our car out of hock so we can get the auto portion of the settlement so we can even look for a new vehicle. Supposedly we will get the check tomorrow and can look this weekend, because they are going to yank the rental car on Monday or Tuesday. [wood]

Then this stupid moronic shit with the gasbags tching, which I shouldn't even be bothering with, because they are just asinine, and not worth my time.

Today, I FINALLY am able to get in to see the doctor, and the chiro, who do x-rays. My cervical curve (neck vertebra) is completely flattened, AND I have a congenital curve of 2-3 degrees on my C-1 vertebra. Well that curve, when it exceeds that 2-3 degrees (which is a lot to begin with),) causes my migraines. Guess what? It is at 5 degrees post accident. Go migraines. Doc thinks I might be mildly concussed.

Also, my hand is bruised black and blue, and guess what else? I work with my hands. bah.

I'm sure I've left something out, but I'm not sure what.

I am home this afternoon, and am taking the next several days off. I probably shouldn't go anywhere until this little cloud of doom blows over.

I did take a picture that might be worth sharing, in keeping with my mood I call it "Ghostly teaparty"

Image

Oh yes, and I am drinking some shu pu to try and warm up and take the edge off. I hope it works.

Daaaaaamn. That IS a crazy awesome picture.

And I'm very glad I read your post before I complained about my stupid week. You win the worst week of the decade award. I swear, only the appearance of a Nazi could have made it worse.

Enjoy your few days off as best you can, and get well soon!

Sorry about all your troubles (though the word "troubles" doesn't seem to be nearly strong enough) this week. :/ I hope next week is at least a little better.

so... to top it all off, I went over to my parents house this afternoon, to pick up a camera my dad said he'd give me. My mom walked in, barely said hi, and left a card for me on the kitchen counter, then left the room.

I just got home and read the card, and it seems that, because I am no longer her religion, she has decided that I am no longer her family, and she will not be speaking to me anymore.

Oh well, I'm over it, I haven't had a mother for a loooooooong time. Her f-ing religion made sure of that.

I need some more pu.

Sorry for unloading here. Believe me, I'd rather be talking about tea and pots.

Poor baby ... we are proud to have you here and are ready to sign the adoption papers any time! Things will feel less overwhelming later ... hang in there and keep taking freaky photos.

Ouch.. I'd say "That sucks," but that doesn't cover it.. not even with the "really" or "very" modifiers. If you and hubby can make it over to SE you can always have some tea here :)

You might want to check with an Orthopedist or someone about the neck, though. I went to a chiropractor that showed me the same with my neck. He was a bit shady so I did some checking around. It turns out that that's just what the neck looks like when you don't lift your chin, which most of us don't do unless prompted. So apparently it's very common for them to just take the neck xray and show you, then lay out a "treatment plan," and then when they take the follow up they'll gently prompt you to lift your chin for the shot - voila, healthy curve.

I don't want to start a debate or say your chiro is scamming you, but I'd hate to see you spend a bunch of money if you don't need to, particularly if there's a chance that there might be something better.

Thanks for the advice. In the business I'm in, I am well aware of unethical chiropractors. But there are good and ethical ones out there. The one who is helping me is one of the good ones. I have an excellent working relationship with him. And as a massage therapist, I knew my cervical curve was flattened even before I had the xrays.

Yeah, to someone who doesn't know what they are looking at, it's easy to fool them with normal films, but I knew the second he put them on the lightbox what I was looking at. I've seen normal, and this was not normal.

Not lifting the chin creates a "flare" on the C2-C3 spinous processes. It looks really weird on xray, but it's not abnormal. Whiplash flattening, or "military neck" has an entirely different appearance. It is not fun to treat, and causes a lot of issues. Currently my left hand is numb, (digits 3, 4, 5 and the ulnar side of the palm) and has been since the accident.

I do hear what you're saying though. I had a client last year that got caught up with one of those snake-oil chiros. He blew through $15k of her PIP in 4 months, and since coverage was exhausted, I didn't get paid. It was only $450 loss, but still... AND, since I was treating her, I can tell you that most of what he was doing was worthless and his treatment "plan" was clearly just to use up all the money as fast as he was able.

bah. don't get me started. lol!

Yeah, I've had hell week after hell week lately, but you still have me beat for recent anguish.

Doctor Padre prescribes a hot cuppa and some animal tranquilizers.

I hope things start looking up for you soon.

On a purely selfish note; you do take some damn fine pictures when things aren't going well.
