Metal Tea Tray

by Pentox » Dec 5th, '08, 13:45

Does anyone know where I can find a metal tea tray like the one in the picture?

Image

Picture is from In Pirsuit of Tea's site, but it doesn't look like they sell them.

Your toaster oven?

Imperial Tea Court serves tea on steel trays, but they don't quite look like that one. Still, their site might be worth a look if you haven't already checked.

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning toward the fact it might not be a "tea tray" per se, at all. But some sort of kitchen equipment.

That'd be one hell of a big toaster oven.

I've seen stainless steel tea sinks/trays/oceans pop up in other pictures a lot though. Notably in pictures of Taiwanese and Chinese gongfu shots. Normally they look to be about 3' x 4' though.

Here's one of the places I remember seeing one

Bizarre Foods Taiwan

It's most prominent at around 1:36 in.

I was thinking that as well. I was kind of thinking that it would be nice to have something like this for underneath the Zoji, with a tube to drain into the sink.

Amazon has some small ones (I think I found them by searching under 'drip tray' or 'spill tray' in the home & garden and/or kitchen sections), but thinking about it now I bet you could find something at a restaurant supply store.

+1 for commercial kitchen equipment outlet.

Maybe one of the commercial places in Chinatown. Philly has a place that might have it or could get it.

J-tea sells one, but it's quite expensive from there.

They are pretty bullet proof, though.

Do a google search for "drip tray". Kegworks.com seem to have a nice selection of metal drip trays you might want to check out.

Heh the J-tea and ten ren ones look very similar. yet hugely different in price.

I'm somewhat inclined to try to find the squared corners like the one in the picture, i kinda like those. But the ten ren option sounds like a good idea too.

Drip trays seem to be a bit on the undersized area. As per their design they're always really narrow. As fit to fit under a tap.

Thanks for all the hunting help so far though!

Great thread!

I'm with pentox, square is lookin better to me as well, but the curves are nice too. The type with 90* corners reminds me of a high end espresso machine's drip tray (only supersized), and I love me some Premium espresso machine!!!!

I've seen these trays in gongfu vids, but they are generally used in tea shops. IMHO, I think it reminds me of a surgical setting and really takes away from the ambience. However, I think it would be good for the office.

I would look into Taiwanese tea vendors. This is the a basic tea tray which most of the tea farmers in Taiwan I came across have. Should be cheap IMO
