Well we'll see. I usually always come back to the first one. But of course now that I actually own the cup, things could change.

Last tea of the day is the last of my FLT AliShan Traditional.
It's seen its prime, I may try roasting it and see what happens.

The rain finally let up, but it's chilly here.

What might be nice is to pair off the cup with a different origami paper/animal/item befitting the season every so often. That way your trademark cup remains and you get some seasonality to it.

I hadn't heard this either. I wonder who founded it?

Speaking of founding it, we need our own TeaChat international days! There's a Talk Like A Pirate Day and (for us geeks) a Pi Day ... why not a Pu Day?

Other, honeybush! Oddly enough while I love rooibos all around, the SMELL of honeybush downright offended me. It tasted fine brewed but I couldn't get over the smell!

We could declare our own Tea Day! But, yeah we do celebrate it everyday anyway.

 Gyokuro Kuradashi compliments of Olivier again today. Stretching this gyokuro sample out with 2 ounce steeps!

Quite unremarkable.
V, is that the sample I sent you? I put this one in the "don't reorder" box. I think it was bitter for me.
No it was from another vendor - DUHHHHHH!!! Because now I remember trying the one you sent me and I didn't like it very well, I forgot and ordered this one. Oy.
Honestly, I have found my fave Nilgiri, Tao of Tea and TeaSource. I am sticking with those good ones, and officially stopping now. Very officially stopping!!!!
Yes, I like the TeaSource Glendales and the Tao of Tea samples that you sent me so will probably order those from now on. The Strand Parkside Oolong and Craigmore are good also, but the Glendale Handmade is better enough to order instead of those. I think I need to try several in a row so I can decisively weed out the ones I don't like.

I have so many samples now that it will be a while before I need to order any more tea!

Happy International Tea Day Everyone!

Tell us how you really feel teaguru. :D

I very much doubt that you will be asked to head up the next rooibos ad compaign, "Rooibos, now with new improved vomit-like aftertaste!"

There are two teas I tried this year that are tied for last place. One was a genmaicha that I bought at a bulk food store... no need to say anymore on that. The other was some small "pu erh" nuggets I got from a high end tea store in Victoria BC while I was visiting there last summer. I brewed some for a friend. My excitement at trying pu erh for the first time faded quickly. She bravely finished her cup. I drank mine as well, mainly because I was fascinated by the sheer study in bitterness.

No bitterness in my cup today. Many cups of Hatsumi / Chiran supreme sencha blend, starting with a great steaming mug this morning.

I'm finding out , that in my case, its not so much the tea as how I've attempted to brew it. I'm a lot humbler in my opinions and willing to grant second chances more often. Happy Tea evening.

PS looking over other peoples experiences - I pretty much stay within my known boundaries - I have not tried some things that I don't expect to like - but if something is on the edge, I'll try again another way. I don't really expect to like flowery or fruity blends - and I know I'm still learning to brew the greens correctly. It gives me incentive.

For me the worst tea of the year was a white tea that I got sent as a sample from someone I ordered teaware from on ebay.....it was a Bai Mu Dan and it was just horrible.....it tasted to me as if it has been stored improperly and was perhaps stored next to some other herbs or spices in a non-airtight container.....I didnt get sick or anything, but I certainly didn't brew another cup! *Right now I am working on the first cup of a premium sencha.

I am curious to know which tea store it was (I have my suspicions!). My own trial of locally bought pu ehr was, unsurprisingly, disastrous. One of these days I'll have another go at pu ehr, but next time I'll buy it from someone who specializes in it.

I got it from Silk Road which I think is on Government St. near Fisgard. I bought a little container of "Snow Leopard" white tea, which was fantastic although I paid way too much for it. I also drooled over some of their tea ware which was mostly very pricey, although I did buy a couple of large teacups from Japan that I thought were reasonable. The staff were great. The pu erh was not. :)

Heh... same place! I like Silk Road, but their pu ehr is not worth drinking IMO.

If you find yourself back there, ask at their tea bar if they'll make you a sample of whatever tea you're considering buying. (I wish I'd done that with the pu ehr!) The staff are helpful and they're generally happy to do that for you.

Hi everyone...Happy TeaDay! Can't remember the name of the tea, but it was something flavored from Celestial Sea...... ugh. sorry, I don't want to offend anyone, but it was just awful, stale and almost musty.
