Organic black tea from Panchthar, Eastern Nepal

by c_angbo » Dec 17th, '08, 07:39

Namaste Tea drinkers

Glad to find that there's plenty of tea chefs online. Let me introduce myself first, My name is Chandra Angbo and i have been living in the United States for the last ten years since i moved from Nepal back in 1998. And apart from my school( B.S in computer technology), i am also involved in charitable and non-governmental projects.

We just got back from a field trip and brought along some tea samples from the tea gardens of Panchthar, the eastern part of Nepal that boarders Darejeeling and Sikkim on the Indian side. We are working out on a project for Yaksa Nepal, an NGO that focuses on models for sustainable living and since tea is widespreadly grown around that region, we thought maybe we can find a sustainability for them if they can only start trading it. We are convinced that these tea are grown without any additional pesticides and the garden, specifically, the one i have samples for, is a USDA organic certified by the NASAA, an Australian agency. The whole process too, is entirely done by hand since they can't afford any hi-tech machines. The gardens there ( 3 of them) are all on their 8 or the 9th year and are in full potential of producing but because of the inadequate resouces, the produced teas are all either going to waste or is sitting in the warehouse that might go bad over the time.

I have a great love for my village and i think it also becomes my responsibility to help the people there as i am probably the only lucky one who had made it this far. I have been helping through aid and other means but the only way i can help them permanently and sustain their life better is by " Giving TRADE instead of AID". I am trying out different strategies to implement for the project and this one's by far the best. But before i start revolutionizing the village, I need some expertise help to verify the quality of the product. I am looking for people who is willing to taste and give me an insight on the quality of their tea. It is a Powerball for the village if only we know how good it is. I have some green tea, black tea of different grade and i will be more than happy to sent samples if anyone is interested.

Please email me your email address and believe me, your efforts will be worth in gold. I also have pictures from the tea garden that i will love to share.

Thank you everyone

Opinions? This newbie posted twice in the forum today, same post.

Does this deserve placement in the forum?

Maybe ITD should swoop in and try some of this "premium stuff."

I used white pages, and there is a Chandra Angbo in Wichita KS, so who knows it could be legit.

I got an email from this guy a few days ago, for what it's worth. Sounded pretty legit to me, I just wasn't really interested.

He has posted this now 5 times ...

He is giving samples, but frankly it would scare me a bit to try tea from someone who I have no idea who he is.
