Long time lurker here, as although I rarely have the time to particiapte on message boards, this is often the first place I look around when I have a question tea related that needs to be answered.
As an iPhone user, I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of any good Tea drinking related apps available. The only one I know of is a basic timer for steeping (if there are any others that I seem to be missing, Id love if you could PM a link).
That being said, I'm currently working on a Tea related app, which at the moment is shaping up to be a timer, as well as a "tea cupboard", which to briefly explain, would allow you to build and have a navigatable list of the teas you have had, and your own personal rating and notes for them.
So my questions for everyone on teachat are:
a.)how many of you have iPhones/iPod touches?
&
b.)what are some features that you would want in a tea app for your iPhone? And even if you dont have one, but still have any suggestions/ideas, Id love to hear them.
Thanks for the reply. I've actually seen that before but we are working on more of an app to "catalog" and rate the teas you've tried, where as that is basically just a mobile version of the current TeaMap directory for local tea cafes, which as was stated in the comments below on that thread, would be much easier to do with a web interface than it would be to make a entirely separate app for.brandon wrote:http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5556
Yay! Fantastic idea. I'm not an iphone user, but the number of applications that are available sure is staggering. If I were to use a tea app here's what I'd want to see:
I'd like to be able to enter teas into my database by linking to the place I bought them from online. I would then have the name and price of the tea (maybe a pic as well), and could add my own tasting notes to the listing.
I'd also like to be able to select a star type rating for overall enjoyment, add brewing notes, and maybe even select from a list of descriptors (separate list for each type of tea) to avoid excess typing. ie- green tea list might say: astringent, grassy, vegetal, smoky, marine etc, and you could select the ones that described your tea. The app would come with some words in place, but you could add more to suit your own needs.
I'd like to be able to look at my list sorted by type of tea, vendor, or star rating.

I have an iPhone, which I love!
For a database type app, anything that can reduce typing the better. Make ratings a matter of selecting from a list. I don't know about some sort of master database for all of the teas out there because there are thousands! Those names will need to be keyed in by the user. But ratings can work from lists and menus.
The whole thing would probably work best and be easier to develop as a web app instead of an installed application. A web app could also allow for a standard computer interface as well, which would extend the reach of people that it could serve.

I have an iPod Touch. I have been user Evernote to keep track of the teas I like/dislike. It not a database per se but is a free note taking app that is available on the web on your desktop and iPhone/iPod Touch and will sync between all three.

There are actually a number of tea related applications for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
My Tea Timer
Tea Time!
Tea Timer
Tasting Notes
Tea Notes
Tea Round
and two versions of "The Book of Tea" from different vendors.
I'm working on something very unique for this platform myself. I can't say much about it except I think you'll like it!
I believe Steepster.com may be working on an iPhone app as well.

As a side note, I have reviewed a couple of the tea timing apps on my blog. I'll be reviewing the rest of the apps listed above over time as well.

Re: Tea Tasting Notes Iphone App
It's an interesting application. It doesn't quite fit my my personal reviewing methodology, but it's quite customizable in that regard.fmoreira272 wrote:Has anyone given it a try? Looks interesting...
You may also want to check out "Tasting Notes" which has a tea notes option, although not quite as refined or customizable.
