any loose-leaf tea-at work solutions as of late?

by joelbct » Jan 22nd, '09, 07:38

Anyone have any solutions for brewing loose-leaf tea at work, as of late? Looking for something glass/ceramic (non-plastic), and simple, if possible, ie a large cup/mug w/ infuser or something.

It takes some getting used to, but it brews great tea. I use a plastic version (waiting for the glass one to ship) for green tea almost everyday.

I like this very much:

The upper layer is just around 120ml (or smaller, i didn't measure). Excellent for oolong (or puerh, which I don't have in office). There are different sizes, but I like the small size the most.

If you get one like Warden suggests, I'd use a Bodum infuser in it.

I recommend the largest Finum or Bodum infuser that fits in your mug, even if it is made for a pot rather than a cup.

Like this if you can find it :

I have the glass one and it is pretty good. I usually use it for oolong and just brew with it and pour it into a cup.. but if im going on the road i just put some green or white leaves in there with some 160 or so water and just let it drown all day.

I have one of these I picked up at FLT:

It works especially great for cold brewing the last infusion of puerh overnight in the fridge by putting the leaves in the top part and turning it upside down. In the morning just remove the cap with the mesh too and drink directly out of cup. I also use it to brew chinese greens like long jing at room temperature grandpa style all day, ie put the leaves in the bottom part and the mesh acts like a strainer. add water all day as you use it. Never really hot brewed in it.

I use the small Mono Filio teapot:

It's a bit pricey, but I love the size of the infuser. All of the parts are replaceable, should anything get broken, which is nice--my boss is a bit of a klutz in the kitchen area.

I second a mug/cup infuser. Just bring that in and an electric kettle and you're good to go. Assuming your work leaves you with the time. Personally I bring a thermos in myself as I rarely have time to sit and refresh.

Thanks for the suggestions. I bought this Bodum 'de Chine' glass thing-

Sorta ok for black tea, but gets clogged up with Sencha. The strainer holes are tiny. Maybe I'll look for a mug mesh infuser...

Hi, I use a standard french press coffee pot. It works well and is easy to keep clean and also works for small groups.

I have an electric kettle, an IngenuiTEA, and a gaiwan set up in a corner of my work area. It's sitting on a tray on top of a plastic storage drawer. It takes up very little space but I'm also able to keep everything stored together.
