Hello All!

by disper » Jan 22nd, '09, 15:10

I am just getting into the realm of loose leaf tea. I am a college student and just received the ingenuiTEA and the flavor sampler. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on the best way to go about making it, or tips about tea in general. All that I have access to is a microwave unfortunately to heat the water. Looking forward to joining this great community of tea drinkers!

Thanks,

Marcel

Congrats on your acquisitions; and Welcome to the World of Tea!
I do not own the ingenuiTEA but it is on my list; however there are lots here who will be able to help ya out! I'll let that to them. In the meantime, I know there is a topic on the ingenuiTEA, I will look for it and get back to you!

Welcome!

I won't be much help with the ingenuitea and the flavor sampler. I would say boiling water and steeping time of 3 to 5 min should be a good starting point. With loose leaf tea, you have to experiment.

Welcome!

The best tip I can give is to play around with what you've got.

I would invest in a Sunbeam Hotshot or similar to heat water. Microwaving is not great for making tea. I would not put the ingenuiTea in the mic at least. Heat water in a mug or something.

Anyway, welcome to TeaChat disper. Good luck with your new teas! I hope to see you around the forum.

If you must microwave your water I would do it in a glass measuring cup, then use the ingenuiTea.

welcome fellow college student!

i can fully understand your water heating woes D: i live in the dorms, and therefore hotplates are on the 'illegal' items list :< I do not have an ingenuitea, but i heat most of my water in the microwave in a pyrex measuring cup (such a multi-purpose vessel!) Hope to see you around the forum! Join us in teaday and let us know what you're drinking! I think you'll find tea to be a most excellent study time beverage!

Welcome!

As a recently graduated college student, I would advise you to be careful of the Sunbeam Hotshot as the one that I had sucked enough power to trip the breaker every few times that I used it while in the dorm. I think that was due to that we also had many electronics hooked up between the two rooms attached to that breaker, but it was always using the Hotshot that tripped it. It worked fine in the other dorm that I was in so just be warned that it pulls a lot of power unless they fixed that in the newer model. Beyond that, it is relatively cheap and works well enough to boil water.
