HOHRYU Kyusu (Hibiki-an)

by beachape » Feb 5th, '09, 20:20

Hi, I have a couple questions about this kyusu .

http://www.hibiki-an.com/product_info.p ... cts_id/447

If any one has it, what do you think? What type of filter is in it? Is it removable? Also, is it appropriate to use this style of kyusu with several varieties of tea (from sencha fukamushi, gyokuro, houjicha, to chinese green), or will it retain flavors like an yixing pot?

Oni, If you're reading this, I saw that you posted that you had this kyusu and also bought a matching water cooler from O-Cha. Was that the Samashi Water Cooler KI1118? http://www.o-cha.com/green-tea/samashi- ... i1118.html It is listed as made from green clay, so I wasn't sure if it matches. Does they water cooler match the pot well, functionally and aesthetically? Any other matching water cooler's available online?

Thanks for your help.

I've had that one for a couple years now and love it. the filter is a metal mesh type filter, fitted over the base of the spout on the inside of the pot. I've never had the occasion to remove it, but I'm sure you could if you need to.

the clay has been fired at a higher temperature than a normal yixing pot. it will not absorb the flavor of the tea, I use mine for all types of green tea. Also you don't have to "season" it on first use or anything like that (apart from a good washing with boiling water)

Also feel free to take the plastic nub off the end of the spout. It pours just fine without it (unlike some pots I've seen)

Hi, thank you for asking, I have this kyusu for a year now, it has not removable inox filter that covers only the sprout, it is ball shaped, a little high, I think it is made for fukamushi sencha, it pours fast, and that yuzamashi from o-cha matches it well, much better than hibiki-an`s reddish yuzamashi, aestetically they are great toghether, at full capacity it can make 3, 100 ml yunomi worth of tea

As the picture shows they match well.
