Hmm... perhaps its just this sheng i've been drinking lately.Salsero wrote:Sometimes you see 1 gram per 30 ml water given as a standard, by which measurement you would use 5 grams. I find myself drifting upward from there lately, but not all the way to double, maybe 25% to 50% more.
Of course, as always, the real rule is whatever works for you, your style, your tastes.

I've been brewing with this pot that I purchased about a month ago now. Its advertised as 130ml (~4 oz) but when I measured it with a pyrex measuring cup it fell in between the 4 and 6 line so its more around the 150ml range. I wish I had a good way to measure ml so I can see exactly how many. What do you think?

This is why I got a food scale in addition to the crack scale I use for tea itself.PolyhymnianMuse wrote: I wish I had a good way to measure ml so I can see exactly how many.
I set the pot, cup, gaiwan, etc. on the scale, tare it, and fill it with water. Since one fl oz of water weighs 1 oz avoirdupois and since 1 ml of water weighs 1 gram, I can just read my capacities off the scale.
Pot on scale, tare, weight is zero. Add water. If the water weighs -- for example -- 120 grams, then capacity is 120 ml. It's like magic!
I just bought a new scale as well and you're right. That is like magic! My gaiwan is 125ml when it's filled to the brim, but to the spot where I normally fill to is right at 100ml. Only difference is mine actually has a setting for measuring in ml (which is superfluous as you just pointed out ^__^).Salsero wrote:This is why I got a food scale in addition to the crack scale I use for tea itself.PolyhymnianMuse wrote: I wish I had a good way to measure ml so I can see exactly how many.

I think I've got about 40Kg and I drink about 2Kg a year, so about 20 years. I used to think I had 50Kg, but unless I lost some somewhere (which is possible when you're squirreling tea away all over the house) I was wrong. The good news is that now I feel free to buy more! Since a lot of the tea I have now probably won't go much over 20 years, I need to pick up some really long term hold stuff for my dotage.
Anyone have any recommendations for really strong flavoured cakes?
