Kyusu newb questions

by balmung135 » Feb 9th, '09, 23:19

Hello i have some questions about my newly acquired Kyusu pot. I am using it solely for Japanese green tea It came with a glass infusion chamber but i did not think it would be good for the tea. Should I let the leaves just sit in the water and strain it as it pours? also can anyone point me to a simple guide or video on brewing with this particular pot.

Hi Balmung135! Could you tell us a little bit more about your pot or post a picture? Does it have a filter inside the teapot where the spout is?

Ok, I have a small glass kyusu that has no strainer on the spout. it came with a glass infuser but there are only 4 small slits in it so i dont believe that it would be good for gyokoro. I have the smaller one in this picture (sorry i dont know how to put the image in my post) http://www.worldmarket.com/Glass-Teapot ... /index.pro

Yeah, that infuser is no good for Japanese teas IMHO, nor most teas in general. I think this is probably Chinese in origin, not Japanese.

I would not use the infuser, strain as you pour instead which will make multiple steeps a bit of a hassle, but doable.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
