Amusingly the thread over at o-cha only seems to say that it's really hard to brew right. That and it's a chu not an asa.

CHAllenge!!!

They seem to have worked out the brewing parameters on the forum before I got mine. I have not had a problem with is as a result. One has to pay attention though. I think I can tweak it a bit yet though.

It is quite different from any other sencha I have had.

Yeah, it's not your typical sencha.

Can you guys be more specific? Do you like it? Is it more floral or oolong like?
Thanks!

Reviews, please? Pretty please?

The oolong comparison scares me because oolongs are not usually my thing, but I'm curious as to what this is like.

I received mine on Friday and I've had a chance to try it out a few times. I haven't figured it out maybe but so far I'm not sure what to think.

Initially tried it using the parameters in the O-cha thread: 60C, 3g in 150ml (0.6 gr/oz), 75s.

The aroma is very subtle, smells like mild but fresh sencha. The flavour is very mild, almost thin, little astringency. Typical sencha flavours though weak and a hint of something floral at the back of the throat and nose and in aftertaste, not very sencha like. 2nd and 3rd infusions were even thinner, and by the 4th it was definitely spent.

I was a little under-impressed with it this way so I played around with various ratios and temperatures. Settled on this as my favourite so far: 70C, 4 g in 150ml, 75 s.

Similar. Still very mild but interesting flavours. Peach or apricot hint - I can see how this would be described as "oolong-like". More astringent which brings out some of the subtle flavours a little, but also approaching bitter. 2nd and 3rd infusions are unimpressive, not worth doing a 4th.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this tea, and it's definitely worth trying, but it's just too mild for me to feel excited about. I have nothing against mild teas but this one just doesn't give me the "oomph" I crave from senchas. I think there might be an interesting and complex tea hiding here but I can't coax it out.
