I was so happy to see that my gaiwan came in that i just had to try it out. when i did, i dropped the lid.... so now i am wondering what is the best impromptu thing to use as a lid.

The lid from your second gaiwan.

Nah, just kidding. You could invert the saucer and use that, depending on its size. You could also cover it with tinfoil, but you'd need some sort of strainer. A fork might work if the leaves aren't too small.

Sorry to hear about the break. I was really bummed when I chipped my first gaiwan.

I broke the lid to my smaller gaiwan (naturally was my favorite). It wasn't expensive, but still disappointing. Someone did point out though... even without a lid, it makes a nice cup/saucer set. I am hoping to find a replacement lid at some point, or repurchase the same gaiwan... but can't find it yet.

Try to find a cup that fits the bill, or a small saucer if you can find one.

A cup without a lid is better than a lid without a cup.
I know it's disappointing but you can always use the cup to drink from.

thanks for the tips, the cup is still really nice so that is a plus. Im going to just end up getting another, it was just rather disappointing haha.

We could consider starting a thread on the Tea Swap subforum for orphaned pieces - e.g. "I broke my Tokoname teapot but I still have a perfectly good lid - anyone need it?" or "Broke my gaiwan lid, looking for a new one"...

Come to think of it, I do have an orphaned Tokoname lid somewhere that I could add.

OK, I will photograph and measure my Tokoname kyuusu lid some time tomorrow, and start up an "orphans" thread on TeaSwap.

Speaking of which, I'm going to take my Eilong gaiwan to the Victoria Tea Festival tomorrow (it has a broken bowl, but the rest of it is OK). I've been trying to find a replacement for months; but although several North American vendors do sell wares by Eilong, none of them offers this one. I discovered that one of the exhibitors at the Festival (Van Cheong Tea Inc. of Richmond) sells some Eilong items, so I'm taking my poor cracked gaiwan with me back for Day II to see if they can arrange a replacement.

By the way, Van Cheong also had a small teapot that looked to be a close cousin to Salsero's famous "Bubba":

I agree, good idea, Chamekke! We should "make it so." I would suggest one stickied topic where members could go in the event of a need or availabilty. Since you mentioned it, Chamekke, I will defer to you to submit the topic under TeaSwap. I will sticky it.

Of course it would get more views under Teaware ... thoughts?
