The filter does not come out on the older black based models.
If you really enjoy using it and use it often, it's time for an upgrade.

I have a 16 oz. size. The video on the website of it in action is what mine looks like. It has a black base without the white thing sticking up in the middle.

I have the 32 oz one and the filter comes out for cleaning.
