My gaiwan is very slightly oval shaped. If I remember correctly I paid under $10 for it. Is this a characteristic of a cheap gaiwan and if so, where would you suggest I go to find a more symmetrical gaiwan. Unless of course gaiwan are not round ever.

Usually they are round.

But if it pours well, why worry?

It only bugs me that the lid sort of wobbles when it is sitting on the cup thing.

That doesn't change much with a round gaiwan. I have an oblong gaiwan and a round gaiwan, I honestly prefer the oblong gaiwan. Keep the "points" facing up and down, so the lid fits perfectly slanted in the top to pour. Excellent performance, I love oblong gaiwans.

Actually, most gaiwans don't have perfectly round shapes.

I did not know that. I was deceived by all 4 (I have 4 now! whoo!) of mine being symmetrical. But they are also all very inexpensive and mass produced, so perhaps this is a trait of higher-quality gaiwan?
