Ito-en Sencha recs

by devites » Feb 18th, '09, 21:19

I just finished my 2nd tin of Sugimoto USA sencha (seriously delicious) and now i need something new. I've never had any ito-en sencha, so any suggestions are welcome.

I actually have to place an order soon myself. They don't have all the in-store offerings up on the site, but they do have some of my favorites.

These two are intense, vegetal, succulent Kagoshima sencha's, and pretty affordable at 16.50 for 3 oz:

Chiran Kanaya Midori
Megami

If you have some $ to spend, their Uji Gyokuro is great.

I also recommend the Kawane Sencha, but its not on their website, so you could try calling them up.

And in late May or June, Shincha (first flush spring tea) Season, definitely try their Shizuoka and Kagoshima Shincha's, out of this world...

The chiran kanayamidori is a hard followup to SA sencha imo. I haven't given the megami a try yet so I'm not sure how it is.

Following SA Sencha I'd suggest something asamushi. Umegashima sencha looks like it might be an asa. I have both the megami and umegashima on deck to try though.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be in NYC for Spring break at the end of march and will definitely stop by the store.

Word... i've got a packet of each, en route to Florida as we speak... more curious expressions from coworkers at my dayglo-green concoctions, coming up...

I second the motion. The megami is fantastic...I'm drinking it as I write.
