I don't think it was disruptive at all. You and Thanks had a high level conversation that I felt was very informative for everyone. You were also both perfect gentlemen, especially in reconciling what at first appeared to be differences. You were especially gracious at peacemaking. I'm sure the whole episode only increased your status among those who frequent the sub-forum.

I'm clueless when it comes to pu-erh, so while I occasionally drink and enjoy it, I never review it at my blog. Even though I enjoy learning all I can about it, I don't often visit the pu forum, mostly because it seems to be a briar patch of misinformation. While I see nothing wrong with Drax's post, I think your response is exactly what's needed to create a more informative atmosphere.

I personally have no idea why anyone would turn to the pu forum for knowledge when there is such valuable information to be had at the better pu-centric blogs. Indeed, I think one could learn more about pu-erh reading MarshalN, Bears, The Half-Dipper, and Ancient Road than with an infinity spent in the pu forum.

The Sheng of the Day thread in Badger and Blade can be similarly valuable for a lot of informal reviews. Hobbes posts more reviews and thoughts there than he does in his blog and they are more to the point.

As much as I agree with your statement, Lew, I have to say that I love the comradeship and enthusiasm in the TeaChat pu forum. Those guys are not afraid to make mistakes. Having said that, I certainly would caution anyone to consider the source of any statements they read there. It doesn't take long to figure out that Shogun89 is a high school student with little experience, but Thanks, Hop, MarshalN, Tim, Nada, and maybe one or two other posters are less vociferous but wiser.

Thanks to this forum to have a ITD, and thanks to Hop's view and to speak your mind in the "wild open". I've been trying to avoid the sections: oolong and Pureh, mainly because of the half newbies for their made-believe facts.... Very hard not to scratch the itch IMO. To give my 2 cents, my purchase of better Pureh is usually around $60 per bing which I do believe it's the safer zone, of course you have to taste more vintage to know the WHY and WHAT you should be looking for in younger sheung. A reverse deconstruction so to speak?

What really got me and perhaps it shouldn't have, but these noobs one week were asking questions and the very next were starting to give advise to people people who had also had an interest in pu. Indeed, forums are a place to exchange ideas and knowledge but it also is the responsiblity for the contributor to make sure they are giving an informed opinion, otherwise Teachat will become a load of shit. I know this forum is made for the novie tea drinker as well as those who have been drinking tea for sometime; however, I really like teachat and hope to learn as much as I wish to contribute. THERE IS LOT I WANT TO LEARN! I don't want to spend time in a forum where I have stopped learning. I hope that made sense.

As much as I agree with your statement, Lew, I have to say that I love the comradeship and enthusiasm in the TeaChat pu forum.

Those qualities are exactly what makes TeaChat so great, forum-wide. I don't mean to say that people shouldn't be sharing their experiences, I just think they would benefit from doing a little more reading before posting "lost in the woods" threads, which are in turn often answered by newbies. Forums are great, but they can be difficult to navigate; blogs, on the other hand, just sit there waiting to be read. I realize that some people just want to find answers quickly, and the forum is a good medium for that. But for something like pu-erh, you'd think people would want to invest in learning more before buying and aging cakes they know nothing about. Again, I don't know anything pu, so it's possible that I'm misunderstanding the relationship people typically have with it, which seems to be less know, more go.

I actually think you should - at least in the oolong section Everyone is here to learn, and it's better than just leaving bad info on the board for people to find in the future. I know it can be a bit much at times, but throwing in what you can is always good The only thing that gets me is when someone posts a book of half-truths in a single post so that it just takes too much time to try to reply.
