I tried my golden monkey today (adagio brand) and was not very impressed. I liked it but it was milder than i was hoping for. I am coming off of a lifetime coffee addiction so i was hoping for more of a robust flavor in the morning.
I used 8.5g for 14oz, steep for 3.5m at 205 degrees. Again, it was not bad tasting but I was hoping for more robust. Should i try adding more tea or increasing steep time or both?
i can't wait to get home to my apricot green!
Have a great day.

Sometimes the steep time for a black can be up to 4-5 minutes but you chose a good starting point. You're probably using enough leaf. I can't speak about Adagio's golden monkey, but if you're looking for a robust black have you tried a keemun?

I've had some pretty stout Yunnans also. Adagio has a couple that you can buy samples of.

Yeah, I've had the golden monkey and some Keemuns, I think the Keemun will give you that punch your looking for.

I marked down those that you have all recommended. I'll defintiely be doing some sampling of them all.
Thanks for the help.

You might want to check out the keemun Encore. It isn't as smokey as the concerto but it is a nice stout cup of tea. Also the Irish Breakfast tea is nice and robust too like silver image suggested.
