Yes, I find that my taste is rather poor in the mornings. I think its just because your body hasn't fully wakened up yet. I brush my teeth after I get out of the shower which seems to help.

For me it is matcha in the morning, then sencha during the day more because I can't make matcha at work and the evening seems like the wrong time though I know there are ceremonies especially for the evening.

Just a hypothesis, but after you wake up you may be congested which limits your ability to taste. Try blowing your nose. Also brushing your tongue (with your toothbrush) in your morning routine can help shed some dead cells and make tasting a little easier. Then perhaps you will be able to appreciate your sencha a little better in the morning.

It depends on the morning for me. If I have to be at work at 6 a.m. then it just won't work, I'm to deluded to even make sencha, I am not a morning person and I need a nice shove to get me out the door, Irish Breakfast is fantastic for this. On the mornings where I have more time to wake up slowly and enjoy things then I will brew all sorts of things, even sencha.

I think I had posted regarding this. I think that the taste of my sencha and gyokuro is completely different.
It is especially difficult to taste that green / vegetal taste after brushing your teeth or drinking milk.

Also - I think that sencha is a little too strong if taken on a empty stomach.

I don't brush my teeth before my morning matcha but I do have cereal with milk first most days. If you think sencha is hard on an empty stomach, try matcha! I must eat prior to my asamatcha.
