Isn't it all the farmers in LBZ have signed a 30 years contract with Mr Chen to provide tea to his factory exclusively?
Money does bring along with a lot of problems ...

Re: Pu of the day
Chen Shen's tea isn't great. They work on too large a scale & machine process their teas. It's also difficult for them to vet all the maocha that's coming into the factory. It's possible to get much better tea with good connections and/or by camping out at a farmer's house in LBZ while he makes the tea. Of course this is difficult if you need larger quantities. I know one tea producer from Hunan who asked her younger brother to spend the whole season staying at the farmer's house for the past couple of years to ensure she could buy as much tea as she needs.
It's pretty cut throat in Lao Banzhang, but if you're prepared to enter into that and have money to spend, it's possible to make good tea.

By the by, there is no good reason to pay $190 for this year's LZB when Chen Shen Haos are pretty easily available--and I seriously doubt that Tacha could get a very high grade.
As for all the people that are getting Man'E, good luck on 'em...

Puerh marathon at Tacha (a local teashop that presses own premium grade puerh). The tea I tried today is range from USD40 to USD190
2011 Tacha Special Edition raw - 200 years old tree - first spring harvest. 5th day arrival to the shop. very fresh, slightly bitter.
2008 Benuo raw (irrc the name correctly) - bitter with sweetness.
2008 Lao Ban Zhang raw - pure, non mix - very smooth, warm and sweet. out of stock, left only the sample.
2008 Lao Man E raw (aka bitter tea) - so freaking bitter till it gives me the shiver. this is a hot item that ppl are hunting for. very strong. i got dizzy a little from this. out of stock, left only the sample.
2004 Nannuo raw - has a bit barley smell / fruitly aftertaste. didn't age much unfortunately.
2011 Lao Ban Zhang raw - pure, non mix - first spring harvest. USD190/beeng. fresh, light, sweet, not bitter - this is only sample. the stock is coming. limited beeng per person. cannot buy by toong.
All the tea I tried today is quite new but easy to drink because they claim it is from arbor tea trees (qiao mu) / very old trees.

The tea colour is quite light. Obvious Young. Bitter and Astringency. Can barely go through on the the 3rd brew onwards even without soaking. 6g:140ml.
Has the standard Dayi taste. I don't know why is this so sought after... maybe the potential is yet to reveal
Re: Pu of the day
Just had 1930s Liu-An Stick. Very smooth. Good lao wei (old) and have medicine taste. The shop owner brewed about 2.5g for me, gratis

Shengpu of yesterday: 2005 Yiwu Manluo & 2004 Changtai Jifengyuan. The Changtai is from Hou De where I bought it for $50 last year. Just noticed the price is now $75.

Is it me, or does aged puerh taste a little like Liu-Pao... hmmm
Tasted 70s and 90s, today... Bought the 90s cause I like the taste more than the 70s. Price difference by 300%
90s Liu-Pao

2006 Purple bud Haiwan sheng puerh from Norbu today--a tea that started out a little intimidating when I first bought it nearly 2 years ago, but now is a reliable old friend. Mmm.

The two tong in my storage suggest that I am fond of this recipe also. Cheers, mate!nickE wrote:
Currently I'm drinking some 2009 8582. Not sure why. It's nothing special, but I have a fondness for this recipe.
Some more Songpin for me today. Cha Qi, indeed.
I also had a bit of 2007 7542 this week. A nice diversion to a young recipe that is mellowing a bit. A nice change of pace from the cellar tea.

Re: Pu of the day
A couple years back, Essence of Tea carried some tuos from the 1990s that had gone through some pretty humid storage at some point in their life. But they were damned cheap.
After a beautiful oolong today, I thought it was time to break into one of these tuos. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

2003 You Le Mountain Round Cake sample from YSLLC.
Very clean. Drinking nicely on day three. Brew 8-9.
Beautiful leaf and nice medium/soft compression. Combination of some smoke and long mouthfeel with a subtle floral side. Left me feeling good.
7g in 90 ml porcelain gaiwan
