Re: Official Pu of the day
So in my very basic understanding of purple pu there is "zi cha" and "ye sheng cha." The one that reminded me of cat pee was a young ye sheng cha. It looks like the, favored by some, Yi Wu Purple Tea is a zi cha. Is that right?

Unfortunately I only got a sample of that one, sigh.
Re: Official Pu of the day
The tea TwoDog reviewed was debunix's nomination for best sheng pu of 2012 http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17562 and a tea I very much enjoyed myself and re-ordered several times.
Maybe it's something like cilantro it seems to produce strong reactions both positive and negative. TwoDog seemed to identify a lot of nice things in the aroma but got hung up on sourness in the taste. I remember the aroma and flavour matching up much better for me.

Nothing here, I mean there is a quote button need to the rest (bold, italic, underline, etc.) when I reply but the snippet is missing from the main page when trying to quote a portion of your message (as it used to be in the old forum).
The YS cake I bought was from 2013 (Yiwu Purple Tea). Yeap, you described exactly what the taste was like.
TwoDog reviewed that cake in his blog (a very generous review IMO). Link.

Re: Official Pu of the day
I see the quote button right above theI posted earlier on using an smartphone and now back to the laptop.
This new forum is running on Linux, lol. I'm using Windows 7 and FF v. 43. I got a bunch of add-ons that might interfere with something because I can't quote at all. There is no quote button on display.
Maybe the forum admin is still tweaking the system a bit.

I've tried maybe 3 or 4 types of purple pu. I sampled a 2015 from YS that tasted a bit like cat pee to me. Not my cup of tea. I gave that sample away! There was a 2005 brick from YS that was short on body but long on yang qi. The purple tips from Bana I thought had nice woodiness and maltiness. That one I really liked, but it might not be ye sheng cha.Back to the tea thing:
My experience was with a purple raw sold by YS. Can't remember what is was because it has been nearly 2 years and ended up getting rid of the cake.

Oh good the quote worked. I clicked the quote button above then scrolled down and cut and paste your post into the quote. Kinda cumbersome.
Re: Official Pu of the day
Let's see if that worked for quoting! The new forum format doesn't let me quote any posts. Is anyone experiencing the same issue?
Anyway, jay...stay away from purple puerh. Very ordinary and terrible for ageing. There is no depth to this tea. Cheers!
By purple pu are you referring to ye sheng cha? I've had mixed experiences with that. There is some from Bana/Best Tea House that I really enjoy.
Re: Official Pu of the day
I have still to try a purple pu! Drinking shu today--small leaf Dayi from 2010.

Re: Official Pu of the day
2015 Jiu Wan Impression shu pu from YS. I really like this one. It still seems to be settling and is different every time I brew it I'm gonna let it rest for a long while.

2004 Zhong Cha ‘CNNP 7542′ HK Dry Stored Raw Pu'er. Standard recipe for a standard pu'head.

Re: Official Pu of the day
A sample of raw puerh from Bana Tea. Sweet, smooth, quite light so next time around I all more leaves.

Re: Official Pu of the day
I enjoy trying to get into the heads of vendors. What do they sell? Why do they sell it? How did they source it?
White2Tea has always hit the market with bravado. One recent item, Smooch, has gained a bit of notoriety. I find it amusing that a vendors simplest most lowly offering would garner such attention.
The Smooch sheng puerh ball, upside-down lips and all, is a great little thing. The vendor clearly knows no one is going to age these little puppies. He knows it is a whimsy. I find it somewhat endearing that such a small thing saw such great care! From being clearly processed and formed with attention to the nice paper and rustic natural tie, this orb forms a compete package.
What would you create for a one-shot (8.24g in this case) hit of green fresh Puerh? It would be oh so easy to just roll up some of the crappiest tea and move along. Without stewing it, I really tried to push this stuff to see what it released. Paul did not create something that brewed too bitter. After a respectable number of steepings it left a nice fuzzy-sweet coating at the far back of the throat. I would go back and drink it any day. Sure would like to know from what part of Lincang it originated.
This would make a great gift for non-tea aficionado friends.
Thanks to Boychick for the sample and bravo to Paul. I would like to see the properly aged smooch! Now wouldn't that be something?
