Couldn't resist, therefore got the zhuni version of the teapot above.

Though same mold, Jiang Po Ni is 170ml and this Zhu Ni is 140ml

My latest find. It says China Yixing. I like it and it pours well. :P Boiling it now. I have no clue if it's real Yixing. I have no clue about clay, so no idea what it is, but it seems ok though not the best. :? Might those wise in the ways of pots enlightening me?

Well... obvious seam up the front, looks very shiny, very mass produced craftsmanship. If you're lucky, it's real Yixing with very shiny make-up clay on the outside. I'm guessing it's probably not Yixing though. :( Sorry to burst the bubble.

:P No biggie, $15 pot. Good for comparing against my two supposed real Yixing pots awaiting me at two different locations around the world. Better start studying the ways of the pots.

Modern Zhu Ni Xi Shi
Image

Size: 150 ml, thin walled
Pour Time: ~8 mississippis
Source: Tea Masters blogspot
Tea Pairing: Taiwan oolong
Skills: Makes flavors and texture more pronounced.
Price: 99$

I'm quite happy with its performance so far. But slight crafting blemishes urk me some time when I stare at it. Notice that long indentation next to the spout. Don't know if it is the best investment I could have made as far as teapots go.

Body is not very symmetrical!

Chop is in a boring script.

But still I could not part with her after such a brief time together.

I bought the same pot from Stephane.

I also bought the Baotai Shuiping, and can't say I was completely happy with what I received, though I have decided to keep them (partly due to the hassle of returns).

Both leak (the baotai moreso), and both have blemishes similar to yours.

Learning as I go I suppose ...

I used the baotai from Stéphane for young puerh before I switched to an EoT zini pot. I was happy with the result back then. I am happier now. Anyway, I use my gaiwan more often than my pots...

Hello jaderabbit.

If it makes you feel better I got the same Xishi from teamasters and It had craftsmanship issues too. Plus a little scratch on surface.

Hey Guys,

Here’s my first Zhuni :

Potter’s fingerprints: I’m not sure if it’s made intentionally but I do recall a post somewhere in this forum saying that Zhuni can’t be touch too much or it will be deformed after firing, we can’t see it in the picture but the famous wrinkles are actually right underneath the fingerprints.

Good Afternoon, my friend

From 5000friend, I presume. I have a whole collection of different Zhuni
from there (about 18 ;), including your own), different shapes but similar size and clay. I am interested in the effect of Teapot Shape on tea brewing.

What I can say is that yours seem to brew a terrific cuppa.

So, congratulations on your purchase.

Regards
Patrick B. Ludwig

Hi Ludwig,

The pot I posted earlier came from : www.lacaveathe.ch , one of your compatriot.

I paid way more of what it cost with 5000friend, I even bought 2 pots from this ebay seller to educate myself and compare with some of mine, I can tell you that the quality, craftsmanship, can’t compare to my eyes but I am new in this field so I can’t really judge by experience because I have none :? .

Please post pictures of yours so we can compare and maybe other teachatters here would be able to comment and help us making a conclusion.

Good afternoon Achyle

Indeed, the price difference from CHF 200 to about USD is quite high, almost suspicious. I will take pictures a.s.a.p. and post them.

The interesting thing however is, that the Signatures and the Descriptions
are most similar/identical with both vendors. Perhaps they share the same source?

I for my part have always received good quality from 5000, corroborated by my Tea Master. However, my focus is on shape not clay and I am more interested in consistent clay quality than top quality in this case.
This is also the reason for our choice of Zhuni in this matter, it does not influence the taste too much, unlike other clays.

Thanks for your Feedback, a bientot

Patrick B. Ludwig

Two of my bests pots comes from la Cave à Thé. Lionel has a small but very good selection. His teapots are indeed made of very high quality clays, well worth their prices in my opinion.
