Just keep in mind that the tea you buy now may not be the tea you wish to drink 1, 5, or 15 years in the future.auhckw wrote: How time has fly. It is 1 year since I started my tea adventure... So many times I have said 'Have to slow down', 'Try not to buy any more', 'Cut down' but it is not easy to control the craving for more tea

I counted 6g/day can last me about 45 years only. Nowadays, I drink once or twice a week at home, so it probably can last me more years.iannon wrote: lol..i went with 20g a day based on every day of the year on his 100kg.. personally..i dont go thru 20g a day..prob more like 5 to 10
I mostly have new tea. Frankly, none of the new raw i buy is what i like to drink now. Too young to drink, not nice. A waste to drink now too. Plan to start drinking when it is 8 years old and above. Same goes for ripe, at least wait till it is 5 years old and above. So, my collection is meant for aging and 'hope' it will turn out good. I don't know... but I have a variety, hope some will be what i like in the future.wyardley wrote: Just keep in mind that the tea you buy now may not be the tea you wish to drink 1, 5, or 15 years in the future.

Didn't we just go through a ridiculous Pu bubble? Why are we trying to do this all over again?auhckw wrote:Just came back from a tea shop, and according to them, people are buying most/all of their Dayi recently. They only have very few left (on the shelf).
They said Dayi pricing is increasing fast and speculation has already begun... New year product is more expensive than the older year same recipe. Prices are changing nearly everyday.

I heard Dayi releases tea to those mega Distibutors at a reasonable price, but those mega Distibutors are the ones that plays the market pricing.bearsbearsbears wrote:Because Dayi is telling us to!
I am drinkingMilhouse wrote: 40+ tongs of undrinkable tea? What type of tea do you drink while ur waiting?
-90s ripe gong ting
-2004 raw local brand
-2005 ripe local brand
-2006 kunming 7581 ripe
-Hojo's raw (06, 08, 10... young but nice)
-and many free puerh samples.
Not drinking any of my Dayi and Xia Guan at all. Not even 1 that I purchased is opened.
What else am I drinking? I have greens + tiekuanying that I am struggling to finish. Have recently given away those tea that cannot keep (scared it is not fresh) cause no time to brew tea at home these days
Re: Show off your Pu!!!!!!!
Just did a google and, No wonder 7742 sounds familiar, isn't it similar to the 2010越陈越香? If yes, then most probably I should skip, if no, maybe like what you suggest will buy 2 pieces to keep. At least have it.
My shelf space is getting less. Without rearranging, I think can fit 5 more toong boxes. So I have to be selective on toong purchase till my new house is ready with more storage space.
Chua,
The 2010 version is the same tea but custom made.So they used the chinese words and not 7742. 2011 is made for dayi themselves so the have put 7742.So get some for collections to compare it in future.

The gents here have gotten me to add up the mass of my puerh collection.
I am presently just over 42 kg.
Pfft, lightweight!

Snapped a photo of my tea cabinet today while I had my camera out. I have two bowls of water in there to help keep the humidity up. It usually stays at 60-70%. I try to open it for a few minutes everyday, but I'm not really worried about mold.
At the end of this summer I plan on building some type of Pumidor.

I like this! I wish I had more of large cabinet type operation. I have, what I guess is an old doll cabinet for my tea wares and then an old wooden steamer trunk for the tea. I also keep six cups of water in there and it holds the humidity in the 60% range. I do get a white film on the water after a while, but I haven't seen any other signs of mold.nickE wrote:Snapped a photo of my tea cabinet today while I had my camera out. Hooray for pu-dedicated cabinets!
nickE -- when you say "plan on building" -- I assume you mean yourself, and from "scratch?" Any fledging plans you care on sharing at this point? Material? Size? Gold-leaf?

I found this thread, which looked like a cheap-ish way to go about it (<$200): http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?t=8381
I like the fact that there will be no wood smell to worry about.
I am open to suggestions.
Re: Show off your Pu!!!!!!!
Hm, looking back at my pumidor and my decision-making process... I wish I had gotten a bigger one!
So I would recommend starting with the size as your primary planning factor. That might seem like a 'duh' statement, but the hardest part will be trying to estimate your 'fill rate' so that you can have enough room to grow.
I got my pumidor relatively early in my pu-life, and I greatly misjudged my need for space...!
Other than that, depending on where you want to put it, form/style is probably the next consideration. If you can stash it somewhere out of sight, then it really doesn't matter what it looks like...
Also keep in mind the humidifier mechanism. If you go mechanical (like the one in the link), they do make noise. They're not always on, and the material of the pumidor may (or may not) help muffle it a little... but it depends on how much whirring sounds like that bother you.
But size. Definitely start w/ size.
