You guys with your names kill me... so what does "mikomi" mean in terms of teaware? Normally it means something along the lines of anticipation, expectation, or forecast....bonjiri wrote: gestural. nice mikomi

I understand it to mean the inside of the chawan.
I'm curious to hear more accurately from our resident ceramurai however...

Those are each gorgeously beautiful chawan!
Could we see them with matcha???

My Footprints in Snow chawan with Yuuki-Cha's Yuuki Konjo Matcha, purchased back in July. I, new to matcha then, ordered the 100g bag, which needs to be devoured by April.

Today's matcha and chawan.
Can you see the steam? I think this chawan has the most beautiful koudai of all my chawan.
chawan by Cory Lum, matcha is Yuuki-cha's tenkei hana, my favorite.
cheers.

Looks delicious, Seeker. I want to breath in that steam!
I'm cycling through my chawan this week so I can show them all off. Today I used my Melanie Sherman teabowl.

I love the bottoms of her pieces, so here's this teabowl's koudai.

And with today's matcha (more Yuuki Konjo, because it's all I have and I need to finish it).

I'm loving seeing your chawan Karma!
That Melanie Sherman bowl is really cool.
Very interesting koudai.
And I love the beautiful detailed trim around the bottom just above the foot - gives an almost Victorian feel.
Awesome!

The koudai has actual ridges! It's quite fun to hold. I love the trim too. I have two tumblers from her as well, both with very different and interesting trims and feet.Seeker wrote:That Melanie Sherman bowl is really cool.

I got a very different kind of chawan today. Actually, there are two, but one's for me and one's for my boyfriend. And they will probably be used for other things as well as matcha.

The angler fish is angry because I hogged all the matcha.

Very impressive! Such attention to detail.karmaplace wrote:Today I used my Melanie Sherman teabowl.
Did you whisk the matcha in it, though? It doesn't look very wide.
I like how she decorated the bottom. After all, this is the part of the bowl that people see when you are drinking from it.
Very creative, unique style I haven't seen from anybody else so far.
Just did a search to see if you posted pictures of them as well. I see that you did. Beautiful!Karmapla... wrote:The koudai has actual ridges! It's quite fun to hold. I love the trim too. I have two tumblers from her as well, both with very different and interesting trims and feet.
I will have to keep an eye out for her work!

The bowl isn't very wide, but I left my chasen in the States so I've been using a battery-operated frother, which fit inside.Stentor wrote:Very impressive! Such attention to detail.karmaplace wrote:Today I used my Melanie Sherman teabowl.

I love her style. She's on Etsy, but she's on vacation right now (though she should be back soon with more pieces).

I broke my piggy bank and splurged on this Seigan Hagi!

More images on my blog http://chayeji.wordpress.com/.
Won't be for another couple months till I can afford some good matcha.
Sometimes I wonder if I like teaware more than tea.
