Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Continuing along the O-C line-up.
Yutaka Midori. I have been brewing this offering a little hotter (160*), a little longer (90 seconds for 1st steep even though this is fuka), and more leaf (1.25 : 1).
I am finding this is bringing out the elements of YM that I enjoy the most.

Finishing this TD with Gyoko-Hou ... from the O-C!
This is a 2010 vintage gyokuro from a member who realized too late she could not handle the caffeine. This is still really nice gyo even though it is 2010 and the bag has been open for months.
I am brewing is ahso ...
2.5 : 1
127.5613* exactly
105 seconds.
Remarkably sweet and imminently satisfying. I might be enjoying this as much as the comparably priced and oft praised (by me anyway) Kame from the same vendor.

I am not an expert in the Japanese language or even pronunciation. But unless it involves a special pronunciation that I never learned in the japanese class I took. I think it would likely be the pronunciation of the letters just strung together. Ah-o-ey. Maybe Drax can come on and help us out.Chip wrote:Anyway ... it occurred to me recently, I have no idea how to pronounce this Aoi. I just say the letters A O I.AdamMY wrote:O-cha Sencha Aoi.

Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Uji Sencha Otsuusan from O-cha this morning. This was my first purchase of sencha with blended gyokuro stems. And may I say it's green, green and green! O-cha's describes it as being a little sweet and tart. I definety notice the tartness and the greeness on the first brew. The first brew is a little hard for me to drink, and I imagine that the sheer greeness would upset my poor stomach.
Although the subseqent brews are very enjoyable. The tartiness goes away after the first brew and it gets very sweet, sweeter than a lot of sencha that I have had. And I like that.
Brewing parameters: 30ml's to 0.75g. Water temp at 163 and 60 seconds.

I think you've got the correct pronunciation. I'd write it "ah-oh-ee" to be more explicit, but it's one of those beautiful vowel-only words.AdamMY wrote:I am not an expert in the Japanese language or even pronunciation. Aoi is the adjectival form of "blue/green" (ao is the noun).
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
I began the day with some Tai Ping Hou Kui. I'm not sure if it's a lesser quality than last year, or if my tastes have changed dramatically, but it just doesn't match my memories. I'm trying to drink a Chinese green every day so I finish my inventory before it goes stale, but I'm craving more intense teas like Japanese greens, rock oolong and Puerh.

Taking my new Gyokko kyusu for a test run with some Nichi Getsu from Ippodo.

Couldn't help but notice, Adam, it seems like you drink a ton of tea a day. How many grams are you brewing with at a time?
Am I the only one that gets jittery and a bit dizzy if I have tea more than once a day?
