Hi, its been a while, but i really wanted to share this chawan. I find this one very intriguing. Also worth noting are the stories and lore relating to hares. The opposite site has a small field where the glaze wasn't applied but which has (forgive, i can't for the life of me find or remember the correct name for it), that typical japanese pattern of integrated swastika's, which i haven't ever seen before on teaware, but I know its often used in fittings and other metalwork in Japan. This bowl really jumps out at me.
Forgive me if i got this wrong as well, but i seem to recall reading that a more brownish glaze in oribe is caused by a lack of manganese in the glaze, but honestly i can't remember where exactly.
Without further ado: Kuro oribe by Yutaka Hatsumi

I believe pattern is called sayagata and I really like the look of it having something behind the opening in the glaze, nice bowl.

Thank you, you're right:)pizzapotamus wrote: I believe pattern is called sayagata and I really like the look of it having something behind the opening in the glaze, nice bowl.
I really like the bowl, apart from the pattern and painting, its quite pleasingly chamferred on the sides. And i have another oribe style tea bowl but its totally different, deeper black glaze, this is different, but still in tune with the general style.

Those black spots are repairs, right?
That's a quite humble little cup but someone cared enough to repair it. Lovely.

I recently visited Shyrabbit's Etsy and found some wonderful new work, including this chawan that hopped into my cart

I love the motion visible in the glaze, the nice indentations that give my fingers places to rest, and the smooth fully glazed interior will allow it to do double duty as a special bowl on occasion. Here it is making a splendid vessel for some Fushoushan brewed grandpa style.

I've been checking shyrabbit's shop occasionally w/o finding anything new. I rushed over to Etsy and ordered this cup to fill a hole in my cup collection. I love my small collection of shyrabbit cups and this will be an interesting addition.

Shyrabbit cups feel so good in the hand and in use. They're my most used cups.
