What did you think of the 2000 HTC? I liked it, but there was a 2oz sample of 1998 Hong tai chang, that I liked a little better.

What did you think of the 2000 HTC? I liked it, but there was a 2oz sample of 1998 Hong tai chang, that I liked a little better.

My tasting notes for the 2000 HTC have the unusually enthusiastic note "Boy this is really good! Not overwhelming and thick, but very tasty." Of course the 2000 HTC is shu.

The 1998 Premium Hongtaichang is a sheng and it is what I really wanted to order more of, but it is sold out I think. It was also very good and reasonably priced for a pu gracefully and well started on the road to aging.

I have tried the ’06 Douji Yiwu Mtn Arbor, by the way, in the last couple days and am pretty impressed with it also.

I could swear this is shu, it brews dark red? Do you have any left, I can send sample if you like. I also agree with brandon, I wasnt blown away with this one.

What I did like is the 2004 Yue Chen Yue Xiang Pu-erh Tea Cake Sampler, and the 1998 Hongtaiching.

I'm not sure which you refer to as this. I believe the 1998 Hongtaichang is sheng, which supposedly was subjected to some wet storage. A dark red liquor would be consistent with ten-year-old, wet-stored tea, but I could be wrong and it's not on the website any longer. I could be fooled or fool myself into thinking that an old shu was actually an adolescent wet-stored sheng, and it wouldn't be the first time I got something wrong. In my notes I see that I did think it was shu the first time I brewed it and then switched for a couple subsequent sessions to a sheng pot.

The 2000 HTC actually is shu, and while it didn't blow me away (no shu has so far), I did find it tasty, but not enough to shell out $50 somolians for it or any other shu.

I have only had the Yue Chen Yue Xiang once. I noticed a hint off and on of a rubber smell that I dislike ... could have been my imagination. I did like the 2004 Huali brick quite a bit at 5¢ a gram, BTW.

Have you had the 2007 Guoyan 66 at $15 for a whole cake? That seems too cheap to be a good cake, yet Mengyang Guoyan has such a good name.

I have had the 66. Its a nice cake. Cant really say much more. Nothing special, nothing bad. Surely better than the 2007 purple leaf cake from PS.

Ya, I got that cake too. 99 bucks is cheap for good puerh. But I'm not drinking it apart from the initial taste for another 5 years. ;P

This forum has been the best way I have found so far to avoid a few of the landmines that riddle the puerh terrain. My puerh life is measurably better because of the sharing that happens here.
