I actually liked the Lao Cong from them..the roast was just right for my tastes anyway.Poohblah wrote:Jin Jiang ("Gold Medal") Mi Lan Xiang Dan Cong from my local Seven Cups store. Soooooo good. Really strong fruity flavors, peach and strawberry mostly. Pleasing pinkish liquor too
Earlier, Lao Cong Shui Xian from the same Seven Cups. Much much heavier roast than I expected, I wasn't a fan

I think a lot of it was timing. I just wasn't in the mood for something heavy and rich today.iannon wrote:I actually liked the Lao Cong from them..the roast was just right for my tastes anyway.Poohblah wrote:Jin Jiang ("Gold Medal") Mi Lan Xiang Dan Cong from my local Seven Cups store. Im drinking jingteashops everyday milan dancong today for the first time. It reminds me of a bao zhong. I've never had a dancong before though so Im not sure how they taste. Do dancongs usually taste a little like bao zhongs or is it just this one? Anyways, its a great tea for $5 per 100g

You're lucky to find something that tastes good for that price. Now, try to buy a DC that is more expensive from Jing and compare. You should see a noticeable difference. This is the only way to learn what the differences are with higher grades. There are so many variations of DC. Elevation, roasting, age of bushes, etc., play a part in the final result.brad4419 wrote:Im drinking jingteashops everyday milan dancong today for the first time. It reminds me of a bao zhong. Phoenix Oolong Song Zhong from Hojo. I think I never tasted such a good dan cong. Maybe the best tea I ever had.

Past the sixth - seventh brew, I felt like I couldn't read this tea any more. It was so demanding for my palate, so many things going on non-stop ! My mouth was exhausted. I tried drinking plain water but it didn't help that much. Never experienced that.Ambrose wrote:I had this tea two nights ago, it was divine! Sweet soft peach and subtle cane sugar! Akira offered me a sample of his Ba Xian... So... to be continued...
I saw in his latest newsletter that he is going to add two more dan cong in his selection. I am going to try them, that's for sure !

David, have you tried Imen's single-bush teas? If so, how much better is the Hojo dancong? I've been wanting to try more Hojo teas, and that one was definitely at the top of my list.David R. wrote:Phoenix Oolong Song Zhong from Hojo. I think I never tasted such a good dan cong. Thats a great idea. I am going to order from jing in the spring and I will add at least some samples of DC to see the difference. This will be a fun experiment and learning experience.Tead Off wrote:You're lucky to find something that tastes good for that price. Now, try to buy a DC that is more expensive from Jing and compare. I have had Imen's Signature Fragrance Sample Pack plus a couple more old single bush dan cong. They were a good bargain, not expensive, and yet beautiful teas. Hojo's are more expensive.NOESIS wrote:David, have you tried Imen's single-bush teas? If so, how much better is the Hojo dancong? I think the price gap represents rather well the difference of quality of the teas I have tasted. I really found Hojo's were of a higher grade (Song Zhong and Mi Lan Xiang).
I'd say if you have the money, try the 15g pack, as I did. I do not regret it.

Thanks. I think I'll take your advice and order a few sample packs of his Phoenix oolongs, along with a value pack of sencha.David R. wrote:I have had Imen's Signature Fragrance Sample Pack plus a couple more old single bush dan cong. Currently drinking Shui Xian 2 Stamp from Tea Gallery. Good stuff.

Anxi BenShan, got it cheap, my first Oolong. I really enjoy it in the morning and afternoon, except that it needs to be steeped at least 2 mins on 85C to release that floral-grassy taste. I've tried it up to 95C, and it can really take some punch
This 250g bag is going to last at least 2 month for me.
