Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Yesterday, a lovely thermos of Da Hong Pao from Norbu, quite helpful against a cold.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Today I'm having a favorite, tie luo han from jingteashop. I gong fu brewed it differently than usual though. I usually don't experiment much with times, normally I do 20sec infusions through the whole session.
Today I cut that in half and did 4, 10sec infusions followed by several 20's. The result was splendid. The tie luo han was much more tame without losing the flavor but without the slight bitterness I usually get.

A long-delayed package arrived from EoT today. In the Oolong category: 75g of 2010 Hong Shui, 7g sample of the handmade Shui Xian.
Today I put the whole Shui Xian sample in my 60ml gaiwan and brewed it up*. The result was indeed nice, but not quite as good as I expected. It had some things going for it-- great mouthfeel, decent aftertaste, -- but I found that it really lacked in complexity of flavor. I wonder if this is because it is 2010 and therefore quite fresh? Nada says that the roast is light to medium, though.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great Wuyi, one of the best I've had. I just don't think it commands anything near its current pricetag.
* Gave it about 4 hours to air out, seeing as it had been in an airtight package for over a month.

maybe its that lighter roast? i have found what you say to be the case for me anyway with lighter vs heavier roasts..nickE wrote:A long-delayed package arrived from EoT today. In the Oolong category: 75g of 2010 Hong Shui, 7g sample of the handmade Shui Xian.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Trying out the 2010 Hong Shui from EoT today. So far I am very pleased with it. I consider the price of $17/75g to be well worth it.
This is pretty spot on, IMO. "Pure" is a very good word to describe this tea, although it seems to be on the higher end of oxidization to my taste buds. It isn't quite as good as Stephane's, which I found to be exceptional, but it is well worth the money and quite enjoyable.Nada wrote:The tea is medium oxidised and lightly charcoal roasted. The taste is exceptionally pure and clean with a smooth, full mouthfeel and sweet, pure aftertaste.

Currently brewing up some Wuyi that is really hitting the spot. It seems that Wuyi is the bubbliest of Oolongs; I have no idea why.
I get that a lot with wuyi. On the wash its like a head on a beer....well not that bad :p

2009 Wuyi Medium-Roasted Da Hong Pao/Ban Yan Spring Tea. The last of my stock, I may have to get more.

Wuyi DHP again from Wing Hop Fung. I am consistently impressed with this tea considering its low price of $5/oz.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
some cert. organic oriental beauty
packed heavy brewed slightly light, got 5 infusions
maybe not as strong a flavour as others I have tried...but....my brewing for this type of tea always seems to change drastically with each individual one so maybe comparing it to others I have tried isn't the best idea...

TGY two ways. I liked the cheaper one better...
I liked the photo experiment not at all. It seems so unnatural when people do it this way.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Norbu's Diamond Grade Anxi TGY today. Just received this tea yesterday. It is wonderful, just what I have been searching for in a green Oolong.
