I think Wu Niu Zao is a really underrated tea. It sometimes gets a bad rap for being sold as fake Long Jing, but it's a very tasty tea in its own right. I had a Wu Niu Zao from Jing a few years ago that was every bit as good as, if not better than, any Long Jing I had that year.debunix wrote:Just finished a nice session with some Wu Niu Zao, Zhejiang green tea from Norbu. It dealt well with the vagaries of being brewed during a busy morning at work (meaning, often poorly controlled brewing conditions), always remaining pleasant. Haven't yet given this one a really careful brewing with notes, getting lazy here....

Today, I'm working with it a little more carefully, and it's very nice--I've paid a fair bit more for a couple of Dragonwells that I enjoyed less.Splinters wrote:It sometimes gets a bad rap for being sold as fake Long Jing, but it's a very tasty tea in its own right. Starting the TeaDay a little late with Maiko's Maruyama. I'm loving this one. Brew it fairly strong and let the first steep sit in the cup after brewing for about 30 seconds to a minute. The brew will turn from clear to cloudy and opaque and will taste absolutely delicious.aeflo wrote:ordered 2 bags yesterday, along with a bag of yamashita jirushi gyokuroChip wrote:In the TeaFridge ... calling my name!NOESIS wrote:Sencha Maruyama from Maiko.
I've noticed this happen with other teas from Maiko but I'm not sure if I have seen it with other asamushi senchas except maybe Tsuen's (?).
I'm not sure if this even has an effect on taste but it's kind of an indicator that you brewed strong enough, I guess.
It seems to be an easy brewer as well. I've been doing a little over 1 g of tea per 1 oz of water, about 70° C for 1 minute to 1:30 for the first steep. Small deviations from this don't seem to make too much of a difference. I'm not weighing and measuring every time. You can "eyeball" this one just fine.
Using too little leaf will result in a brew lacking some of the deliciousness, however.
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Started the day with some Sakuraka matcha and kyobancha from yuuki.
I must say, the kyobancha was a real steal. If you like houjicha you will be in love with this stuff. Comes out a nice clear slightly dark yellow. I will quote directly because the description is exactly how I feel about it
Great results semi gongfued. Filled almost all with leaves (not too much really since they are take up so much volume), 30-40 s, 40-50s, 1m-2m, 3-6 mins. I have not gone past 4 infusions, but you most certainly could tailor the times to go to 5 or 6 satisfying infusions.
Unfortunately when checking back today, all sold out. Another surprisingly good bancha from yuukicha. If you have not had the green bancha give it a try. Very mellow and down to earth taste. Great for blending too. And like this one, very fairly priced.

Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Recently been drinking a lot of matcha and currently i go by quantity rather than quality. Going through 40g can of usucha grade yame matcha and one more in fridge. One nice thing is, those 40g cans are really nice to use as some kind of small chazutsu, since lids have rubber coating on edge and they are perfectly airtight. My search for small chazutsu has ended

Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
just shared two bowls of yame matcha moe from zencha with my girlfriend
