FengHuang DanCong gets its name from the major production area in the Wu Dong mountain plantations, Feng Huang county, Guang Dong. As a generic name, it actually covers at least three production area: Wu Dong of Feng Huang, Lin Tou of Pin Xi, and Da-Zhi mountain of Shi-Gu-Pin village. Because of the difference in microclimate and cultivars in those neighboring plantations, they are have their own unique focus and characters.

exactly, Lin Tou is a distinct area, I seem to remember it is the name of a village.

shi gu ping (as name of a tea) is not a dan cong, it is a wulong (I think it is from a bush, the history of which I don't know). It holds its name from the location (shi gu ping village). It is possible that in shi gu ping area dan cong is also produced, but I have never heard of any, I would think they don't grow dan cong in that area.

if you see "ling tou dan cong", don't get confused : it is not "lin tou", ling tou is the other name of bai ye dan cong.

Thanks for clarifying! I knew it was a Dan Cong, the rest was a bit confusing.

'Maharaja Chai Oolong' currently fills my cup. I'm considering buying a gaiwan and venturing into other Oolong and Chinese teas...The quest begins! :D

Not a problem, there are so many conflicting translations abounding the web that it can be tortuous at times. I only settle for something once I have seen it from several trustorthy sources, not the same text copied and pasted ad infinitum.

If one regularly chewed various orchid flowers and recognised the difference it may be meaningful but there are lots of different Orchid Fragrance DCs to be found.

Xue Lan = Snow Orchid
Zhi Lan = Orchid
and on it's own
Lan = Orchid

remember these are NOT (or rarely) the name of the trees/cultivars but the name of the fragrance 'Xiang' that the finished tea possesses. And properly the name should have word Xiang tagged after the Orchid element.

TGY from an average local vendor that buys from the lowest bidder.

I'm just getting familiarized with oolongs. Hope they're better than what I'm having, although this one isn't all that bad. I'll try from a better online vendor next.

Just finished a thermos of 2010 spring Diamond TGY from Norbu. So sad to be done with what was a very fine brewing of sweet, rich, floral tea.

Oh, what a world awaits! Though I love Sencha, many an Oolong has made me wonder if it is not the pinnacle of Tea.

What age is it?

I am bringing home a few packets of aged oolong from the 80's and 90's one of which is TLH.

Bought extra packets, thought I might donate some to a TC TI

Mandarin's Tea Room
2010 Wuyi Dancong ShuiXian
Had this with Tim at his tearoom. It was very interesting to then take it home and make a brew to compare (thanks for the sample Tim!) When Tim presented the tea, it's even flat blackness and categorically huge tea smelled for great things.

As I brewed it in a gaiwan (125 ml with 6.5 g leaf) it came out much much lighter. Should this tea take a softer clay pot like chaozhou or a hard Yixing zhuni? I will definitely brew it in a pot next time.

Although it was not as dense, the heart of the tea was very similar to Tim's preparation. A core of rich intense perfumed tobacco wrapper and single estate Venezuelan Chuao chocolate (okay, I made the single estate thing up, but it does smell intensely of chocolate.) Very little bitterness/edge for such a robust tea.

The tea Tim served at the end of the session was the little dribble from the last drops of each brew put together (last pic.) It was a treat. Concentrated espresso...

So if you are looking for ridiculous big fat voluptuous aroma and flavor that goes on and on (my had smelled like it for more than half a day,) give this tea a shot.
