Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
A warm, sweet, summery Pouchong from The Cultured Cup. Mmmmm....
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
David, that gaiwan is a real beauty! I agree with you, the '05 was slightly better. Stephane's tea roaster really knows how to take these teas to "the edge". Loads of dark chocolate, then finishing with a lovely berry-like sweetness.David R. wrote:I started a session with this tea last evening (european time) and finishing it right now with very long brews.NOESIS wrote:TeaMasters 2008 dark roast TGY
I think I preferred the 2005 version but this is a great tea nonetheless.

Still in the mood for pouchong, after finishing the last of that sample (from a tea swap) from the Cultured Cup, I picked out another sample from a tea swap--Bao Zhong from Camellia Sinensis. It is a another cup of late summer, a grassy meadow dotted with flowers, sweet and sunny, and buzzing with bees.

You guys made me crave this so just brewed some up.NOESIS wrote:David, that gaiwan is a real beauty! I agree with you, the '05 was slightly better. I went much heavier on the leaf than I usually do which yielded some interesting results. The mouthfeel was much thicker, and the fruity aftertaste was definitely magnified. I still think that this tea does fine with relatively little leaf but it's nice to change it up every once in a while.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
My thoughts exactly. I went a little beyond my usual ratio, cause I had company and I wanted the tea to last while sharing it. But I usually use much fewer leaves and longer brews. This tea looks like it behaves whatever the circumstance.nickE wrote:I still think that this tea does fine with relatively little leaf but it's nice to change it up every once in a while.

Have either of you tried the very darkly roasted Shui Xian that Stephane has carried in the past? Personally, I much prefer this dark roasted TGY. In general, I think this cultivar takes to heavy roasting better. Guess I just prefer my Yancha "medium" rather than "well done".

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I don't know the Shui Xian cultivar very well to be honest and haven't tried Stéphane's. I tend to prefer the least roasted yancha in general. But taste changes with time and I'll definitively give heavy roasted yancha another try. Wait and see.NOESIS wrote:Have either of you tried the very darkly roasted Shui Xian that Stephane has carried in the past? Personally, I much prefer this dark roasted TGY. Just finished some of the '10 Farmer's Choice Baozhong (FLT). I really like the deep forest green color of the leaves.

Still testing out the Golden Buddha Hand. Better this time.

The tea colour looks very pale for the teas that I know you like, does Buddha's Hand not take too well to high leaf density?
Although I see the pot has a fair filling, just lightly oxidised and roasted I guess.

The pot is quite full, and the leaves of this type (Anxi style Fo Shou, not Wuyi) are fairly light in oxidation and roast. It is similar to a light Tie Guan Yin, but has some distinct flavor notes.Herb_Master wrote:The tea colour looks very pale for the teas that I know you like, does Buddha's Hand not take too well to high leaf density?

I enjoy good quality green oolongs fairly often, it is what I reach for to break things up between my usual high fire fare.

11 yr old premium TKY from jkteashop. Decent for the price. Nothing special, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I'm rotating this tea through all my pots for fun, today it's in a duani I usually use for shu pu but keep rinsed clean. Not bad.

Finished a lovely long (via thermos) session with some Autumn Long Juan TGY from Jing Tea Shop this afternoon. This tea deserves better, but still, holds up wonderfully to bulk brewing and then enjoying in the thermos. Happy customers (co-workers sharing the tea) all around.
Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Just finished the AAA non roasted TieGuanYin (RM100/USD32:100g) bought by my colleague. I think I put too much leaves for a single person serving.

When I see the AAA, I was putting some higher hope for it but it was a disappointment. It doesn't have much aroma, weak flavor, doesn't have long lasting aftertaste. Guess the print AAA is for show, I should have guess the quality based on the price...
