Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
A yuzamashi i bought a couple of months ago. was deciding between a side handle 1 from tokaname and this from hagi. Was worried initially it might not be able to handle the heat from boiling water. Oh well i went ahead with my preferred choice and i'm glad i did. Its easily my fav. teaware as of now.

Nice Yazumashi r.fowler. Do you know who the artist is?
Though perhaps my hands are slightly more heat resistant but with most of my hagi pieces I can handle them briefly after pouring boiling water in them. Part of it is you have to know here to hold it, and other times you just need to remember to not fill it very close to the top.

Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
Thanks! Its by Deishi. I almost missed out on it.i had already placed my order at AN on a tokoname yuzamashi. But just before i make the payment i saw this and after deciding to go for it asked Toru to change order. Hmmm yeah its my first and only yuzamashi so i wasnt too sure whether it would get too hot by the side. But upon using it,holding the vessel by the side where it is jutting out its no problem at all! =)

It just doesn't match my pot. You know it is always annoying if there is no propper set.

So, broke out the Choun Gyokuro set today after months w/o gyokuro worthy enough. The set includes the Houjin, 6 cups, yuzamashi, and a little plate I guess for snacks. And of course the wood box.
It is tebineri, or pinched versus spun on a wheel.
This is reportedly an old set from Choun's early days. I had to do several soaks to eliminate the musty earthiness. I will try to capture the subtleties in future photos, but hard to do with a P&S camera.

Chip I know I have seen these in person but could you take a picture of the foot of the cups and the hohin. I have been looking at Choun pieces and most notably the clays that they use. I thought I had come to the conclusion that the Tan and Grey glaze pieces or at least the hohins with that glaze have a reddish clay, and the blues get a whitish clay. Though I can not tell in your photo whether those had the reddish or whitish clay.

The cups hold 1.25 ounces to the rim. I would guess the houjin could hold 4 ounces, but I never checked it out. I should measure that.r.fowler wrote:Wow it looks real nice, something that i would like a lot. What are the capacity of the cups and houjin?
You can find the houjin-s, not so sure about the sets. PM me if interested.
I will gladly photograph them ... but it is reddish clay.AdamMY wrote:Chip I know I have seen these in person but could you take a picture of the foot of the cups and the hohin.
