Aloha Cory!
Thank you for that beautiful chadamari shot! Yummm.
lkj - WOW! That's a GORGEOUS chawan!
I love those bidoro drips!
And glassy chadamari - again, WoW!
Thank you for sharing your new precious with us!

Today I had two kinds of matcha - hot, and cold.
The proprietor of my fav tea bar just returned from japan - and brought a special matcha especially for cold preparation - the matcha was less cohesive, more sand like (sort of - accept really fine) in that it didn't clump like regular matcha - I suppose it is created this way so that it will blend in cold water better?

I liked it.
Had mochi and matcha cookies too!
Yummmmm!

Hi lkj,
hmmm, I don't know - yesterday was my first experience of the cold type of matcha; i'm not even sure if Teance is offering it other than as a preparation at the tea bar.
my apologies for not being more help on this.

We should offer a reward to anyone with information on cold matcha.

I love my little Ice Split I got from EdKrueger.

I also love matcha. Today it's Yuuki-Cha's iroka.

Beautiful Ice Split, Karmaplace!

It's a rainy, rainy day today. All I can hear is the tapping of rain on the roof and leaves, as well as the croaking of some very happy frogs. Perfect weather to practice tea.

Bizen hira-chawan by Kimura Yukei XIV, Nami-chidori natsume by Shuho, and meimei-zara from the tea ceremony demonstration of the Kitano Odori. A Japanese market in Orlando had some real wagashi for sale, so I snapped those up as quickly as possible. Ahhhh, to have wagashi with tea again~

The tea is the last bits of my Kyo Mukashi from Maiko tea. It's becoming stale, so I'll soon order some new tea and use this for cooking.

Nice chawan and nice pieces of tea ceremony. Do you know if wagashi can be purchased on the net? I have never heard of them.

I would like to ask you about the Maiko´s Chiyo Mukashi matcha. After discard my order from ippodo due the abusive shipping rates I was planning doing an order from Maiko and include this matcha.

Edit: I have found them http://cgi.ebay.es/Wagashi-set-18-of-5- ... 5adecbe548

I've never had Chiyo Mukashi, so I can't review it. I like Maiko Tea, I've found their communication and shipping to be very good. Out of the Maiko matcha that I've tried, I liked Matsu no Midori the most.

The wagashi you posted are very common tea treats, normally served with sencha. Many of the Asian food markets I've been to sell these sets, if you're near any Asian markets you should see if they have these. Otherwise, there are some wagashi stores and companies that sell the kind of wagashi used in tea ceremony online, but because these wagashi will spoil quickly if not kept refrigerated, the shipping on them is relatively expensive. Another type of tea treat used with usucha is called higashi, it's made of packed sugar and it doesn't need to be refrigerated so it's inexpensive. I'd recommend that.

Although, there are recipes online for making wagashi. I've been meaning to try this myself. Here are two websites for wagashi recipes, http://konny.fc2web.com/info/jsweets_e.html and http://www.midorikai.org/wagashi_recipe_index.html. I think the easiest ones to try would be the dorayaki and chatsu recipes on the first link and the kinton recipe on the second.

Oh I see, thank you for the links and information. Near my home there are a few chinese shops, this afternoon I´ll go to see if they have this sweets :P :P Maybe I´ll order Matsu no Midori from Maiko, is more cheap than chiyo and I also read before that is good.

Thank you!!

Like your ice split Karma - reminds me of mine!

Fuyou - beautiful chawan and wagashi! Yumm - makes me hungry...
and thirsty!

Soooo... I had to have some matcha and mochi today at my favorite tea bar - also some matcha cookies, then enjoyed sampling some sencha and finally some dafang.
Ahhh.

Cheers.

Today's matcha in Red Polish Raku Chawan by Andrzei Bero.
See his Tea Artisan forum thread http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 60#p202106 for some background on this beautiful chawan and how it happened to end up on my tea table

Very nice, Nenugal...! It has that distinctive spider-web pattern on one spot of the inside that gives it great character.
