Fugenji-midori from Maiko, don't think I like it as much as other gyokuro I've had from Maiko, but it's still nice.

Home Town Green Tea from the-chinese-tea-company bought in person from the fair hand of Juyan herself .. a tea-of-the-people from her hometown ..

'nothing special' its a robust green tea and actually quite a relief after all the fancy teas im trying, tho its definitely not this years' tea [picked Apr2010]

when i asked her to 'sell me something' she suggested Master Wu's Wuyi Rock Tea ~ Jin Guan Yin, and made some, strong, in gaiwan, before my very eyes, as i sat on a narrow shiny woodbench that Jackie Chan could well have wielded drunken stylee

does this make up for missing the 50% Off her site shows today?

well, she did put her own Chaozhou and the 2 nice Yixing pots she currently uses in the shop into my hand, and made me tea gong-fu style .. im no longer gong-fu virgin [thats only in tea-sense, i do have some training]

i did threaten to buy a Chaozhou when i can pronounce the word correctly [nevermind Dong Ding, who knew? I obviously didnt]

etorix wrote: getting 25gm of anything is totally normal practice for me, or whatever 'sample' size is offered

first time i brewed Xu Fu Long Ya i used my normal-everyday-not-dedicated Yixing

but the tea felt 'shy' as if i wasnt getting the most from it

so this time i used a fancy RuKiln glazed gaiwan for the 1st time [iirc 160ml] so as to not have any added affects from a pot, but glass or any other glazed-vessel would do as well imho

i judge quantity of tea by eye, and steeptimes by feel, im generous with tea quantities tho .. and this tea keeps on giving

it went many steeps over 2 days and well into a 3rd before the times got a bit too long, but it could go longer
Thanks for all the suggestions. Glad it seems I picked a winner. I am generally a "do it by ear/eye/feel" person when I'm steeping a tea for the first time. I just keep a timer nearby to see about how long I steep it for to help me add or subtract depending on my results. Thanks for the run down of your experience. Looking forward to my order this week.

Drinking the very last of my Wu Yi Qu Hao from Teaspring right now. Cold brewed and delicious.

Enjoying Maiko's organic sencha. Pretty good organic, with that Uji flavor, which is rare in organics since most of them are not from Uji.
It's the only organic in their lineup at the moment.

Just finished a long session with Premium Huang Shan Mao Feng from Seven Cups. I've been experimenting with different brewing vessels and parameters. Today I used my large porcelain gaiwan from Tea Trekker, a definite improvement over previous attempts. It reminded me of why I love Chinese greens.

I did overbuy 2011 Chinese greens, relative to my drinking capacity, so I've got quite a bit left in the tea cabinet. This year I'm going to focus more on seasonal attraction, eg wuyi oolong and Puerh in colder weather, greens in warmer weather, and buy accordingly.

Mmmm... drinking 2012 Dong Ting East Mountain Bi Luo Chun from LifeInTeacup. Super fresh and very tasty.

First attempt was with 5 grams of leaf in 100ml of water at 158F for 15 seconds, brewed in a porcelain hobin. Next time I might increase the amount of leaf(!).

Organic Hoshino Sencha from yuuki-cha

Its alright....bit boring. Its got this almost coffee bean taste that I don't like. Not much unami even when brewed at a low temperature. Its just a bit meh. Actually I must confess to roasting some of it and getting a nice cup out of it.

Got something from o-cha to try next so will report back 8)

Need some Asu now....my last 300grams have been Fuka.

Besides OTTI samples from Zencha, I recently opened Maruyama from Maiko. It is indeed nice to have an asa in the mix! Maruayama is really quite nice as others have reported. It has a nice thick umami flavor going on. A very good value at this price.

Also Shou-Un gyokuro from O-Cha. This is perhaps the best value at this price point in gyokuro, extremely nice. This is 2010 vintage ... so almost 2 years old, maybe contributing to its sweet and mellow character.

O-Cha's Kame Gyokuro brewed strong. If this isn't study juice I do not know what is.

O-cha's Yame Organic Kabusecha

Decent and pleasant. I usually brew my Sencha at 60c-65c but this wanted 70c in my eyes. What I liked the most about this tea was actually the 3rd brew which I usually find is oceanic but very thin on most teas. This was oceanic but kept a smooth round slighty soft feel and brought out a flavour that stuck in my throat for about 30 mins afterwards and was very pleasant. 8)
