Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Another dip from my Yancha Grab bag, trying to season a pot with some medocre stuff before I use any really good teas in it.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Norbu 2009 Da Hong Pao earlier today, and this evening, a 2nd encounter with the 2009 Ya Shi Dan Cong from Tea Habitat. It's a nice tea, but for the first time in a long time, I'm wondering what it might be like in a clay pot instead of the gaiwan. May need to shift a pot to the office for these evening sessions with the DCs....

Last of my 2009 Classic Roast from The Tea Gallery. Really filled the gaiwan during this session, lots of cocoa, ripe fruit, and a nice sharp after taste. Getting some tobacco and smoke in later infusions.

More Da Hong Pao today. Still satisfying that itch for yancha.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I tried FLT's 2010 Winter Li Shan and 2010 Spring La La Shan. The Li Shan is probably my favourite tea so far. The aroma is incredibly intense. I'm not able to place it (Tenuki says "it smells exactly like li shan"), but it's wonderful. The La La Shan was also very good, but not as intense.
This is my first time trying Li Shan. I have some samples coming from TFT to compare, and I am putting together an order from Tea Masters. I like it enough to buy several ounces, but I wonder if I should get it from FLT, bite the bullet and get it from Tea Masters, or what.

Just tried Jin Xuan for the first time last night. I have to say, after reading about it I was a bit nervous since there's lots of "fakes".
But the batch I got was amazing! It lasted 10+ steepings in my gaiwan and had several layers of nuances. The second and sixth infusion were exceptionally good.

I really love the 2010 Winter Lishan from FLT - so much I just re-ordered more. I ran out of all my high mountain oolong at work, so had to restock. The Lishan is for home, so I can really savor it. I bought some Alishan and Shan Lin Xi oolongs plus a teapot from Tea from Taiwan. They are offering 20% off their teapots with purchase of tea, so I couldn't pass that up.

Just brewed this yesterday. 6.5g in 125ml Porcelain Gaiwan. It was quite good, a pleasure to drink. Taiwanese green flavor, but extra grass, later turning to sweetness (brew 4) at the beginning. Good intensity but still subtle. Brews peaked at 5-6th brew. Leaf delayed completely opening, but I was brewing at 180F then moved it up to 190. Hard to get closer than farm to table than this.
Definitely organic!

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I cracked open my sample of aged baozhong from TFT in tonight's brewing session. I had come in from spending a while outside in the cold, and it was just what I needed to warm up. Very nice.
I am really hoping my TFT samples order will come in today so I can brew up the Tsuei Luan and Wu Ling beside the FLT Li Shan. Probably wishful thinking, though.
I tried it again just now and I liked it as much as the first time. I also brewed up my sample of the Da Yu Ling to compare. I could smell the same intense aroma, but it's sold out for the season. I think I will order more of the FLT Li Shan. I am going to try Tea Masters' offering, but at $98 for 150g it's probably too expensive to be drinking on a regular basis.rhondabee wrote:I really love the 2010 Winter Lishan from FLT - so much I just re-ordered more.

Select Grade TGY from The Mandarin's Tea Room.
The flavor and mouth feel builds through each infusion. The taste is like a high, perfectly pitched musical note. Such clarity. Really amazing.
I did not time a single infusion and not one of them was bad. The spent leaves are a deep, uniform army green with a single maroon stem running up the spine. Lovely to drink and behold. Truly a special occasion tea.
Marissa, my wife, and I -- along with a close friend -- drank this tea while discussing alternative origin theories, lost myths, ancient calendars and the usefulness and limitations of darwinism; a terrific session full of imagination and energy.
