I couldn't resist buying this:

Guinomi, about 100 ml to the rim.
Vendor's description says: HAGI-YAKI SHIN-SEN-SEIJI-YUU TOUKOKU-GUINOMI (Hagi ware, Shin-Sen-blue porcelain glaze, spatula carving GUINOMI-SAKE-CUP). SEIGAN original glaze called "ShinSen-Seji-Yuu" (legendary-hermit-with-miraculous-power blue porcelain glaze).

It's not the most common glaze but I think it may be my personal favorite.
What comes across in the pictures as as greyish-white is actually a faint yellow.

It is very heavy for being so small! It's actually heavier than an Oni-Hagi yunomi that I have that is twice the size! It's probably due to the fine clay used in this one versus the rough Oni-Hagi.

The protruding ridges that are carved into the clay make this one's texture truly amazing.

I understand your urge to own such a cup... I also love the white clay used for the foot.

That is a great example of this new style used by Seigan. Pretty nice size too. It seems the carvings are used to prevent all the color from sliding off the surface.

Seigan began using this style during the same 9 months he was working on SO 12 "Spirits" and this new style was born of that work.

It is fun seeing the Hagi SO's influence ...

One of my favorite cups, I've had it for quite awhile, so it's like an old friend:

I've been meaning to post some pictures of my first Hagi piece, a Deishi kyusu procured from our esteemed moderator. I thought Chip might enjoy revisiting this piece, and hoped some of the Hagi-philes might enjoy alittle crackling voyeurism. The kyusu was a pristine, uncrackled, pure white when I received it... and now look what some use and love and time have created:

Fascinating how the crackling varies in intensity depending on how much contact there is with the actual tea... the rear side is much less crackled than the spout side.

Ahhh, nice midwifing of this baby who is all grown up! It was not only pristine, it was unchristened. Glad to see it has fallen into hands who appreciate it and obviously are using it extensively.

Thanks for sharing these lovely (if that is ever the right word for crackled Hagi) photos.
