Thought I'd share a couple of photos of the day's matcha and chawan.
Chawan by Jay Strommen, matcha Tancho from ippodo.
1st photo is with natural east window sunlight only, after warming and sifting matcha into the wan (but no overhead light to show the contents). 2nd photo I had to turn on the overhead fluorescents to get light into the chawan so the matcha would show. So even tho these photos are moments apart in time and in the same spot - the overall light effect is different. Wish my photography skills were savvy enough to keep them more similar, but no time for schooling myself in that these days. Cheers!
addendum/edit/ps - it seems to me that the character of the chawan is preserved nicely thru the different light situations, but the background wood really changes. BTW, I rotated the chawan clockwise about a quarter turn for the 2nd shot just due to my own eye looking for a pleasing image.
