Today's MatchaWan :D (new name, but tea's the same)

Greetings and good will to all.
Thought I'd share a couple of photos of the day's matcha and chawan.
Chawan by Jay Strommen, matcha Tancho from ippodo.

1st photo is with natural east window sunlight only, after warming and sifting matcha into the wan (but no overhead light to show the contents).

2nd photo I had to turn on the overhead fluorescents to get light into the chawan so the matcha would show. So even tho these photos are moments apart in time and in the same spot - the overall light effect is different. Wish my photography skills were savvy enough to keep them more similar, but no time for schooling myself in that these days.

addendum/edit/ps - it seems to me that the character of the chawan is preserved nicely thru the different light situations, but the background wood really changes. BTW, I rotated the chawan clockwise about a quarter turn for the 2nd shot just due to my own eye looking for a pleasing image.

Artist is Ray Morales, found on Etsy, who has some very unique and gorgeous glaze combinations. When I saw this one, I just couldn't resist--the blue reminds me of a waterfall, cascading down the side of the bowl ...

Beautiful hope, love the cascade effect - really get that and definitely reminds me of beautiful cascade waterfalls I have seen.

Thanks, Seeker. I have to admit, this was one of those 'instant love' kind of pieces for me--I really didn't need another chawan, but I just couldn't resist.

WOW hope! That chawan is gorgeous!
Looking at it I instantly think of mountains (don't know why, but I do). The color and just the entire look of it is spectacular! Very nice piece, thanks for sharing!

I was bored at working and looking for teaware online a week ago, found some chawan I really liked on etsy. I looked at artist's profile/blog and it turned out he lived a few blocks away from my in Pittsburgh. Of course I ran over and bought a few things. I only previously had a mass-produced chawan I picked up at a Wegman's, so this is my first handmade piece. Also got a little guinomi cup.

Both are wood-fired with shino glaze on interior. Potter was super cool and extremely knowledgable about Japanese pottery. He pulled out some of his personal items and showed me my first Bizen piece in the fancy box. Wow, no wonder you folks are obsessed with this stuff! Thanks Seeker, Geekgirl, Cory--yes, I'm afraid as soon as I saw the piece, I pounced! I'd been in love with Cory's celadon work for some time, but never had the opportunity or extra funds to make the leap until now. And this piece does have a wonderfully carved, relaxed foot--even my non-tea aficionado friends have remarked on it ...
