Tasted the Da Hong Pao and Tie Luo Han. Not so heavy roasted. Quite easy going, so decided to buy the combo set.

TeaSpring's 2009 Lao Cong Shui Xian. I'm pretty impressed with this one. Currently drinking the 8th brew or so and it's holding up nicely. Getting notes of cocoa, sweet berries, and that sharp rock taste. The mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat minty in the aftertaste. It's not too expensive, either.

I hope you enjoy them, I bought the same set 2 years ago in the Purple Cane chinatown shop, they did not let me taste them, I should have tried them at the Shaw Parade HQ shop. Sadly I was disappointed with them - drinkable, enjoyable enough at the time of drinking but overpriced for what I assume to be youngish plantation versions of the Si Da Ming Cha.

The packaging seemed nice at the time, but most of my favourite versions of these purchased in KL come from large canisters packaged for you at the time of purchase.

I highly recommend Jing Dian Tea House in Bukit Bintang (No. 50m Tengkat Tong Shin) but if you like your Oolong sless roasted then make sure you tell them before they offer you one to try for Teamaster L M Chong is famous for the number of hours she spends over the roasting pans. Luckily for you she has started to ease up on the roasting in the last few years, the photos I took of her when seen by my friends back in Chinatown said she looked younger now she was roasting less heavily!

Which reminds me that I promised to do a photo  report on these pages and send the url to her friend Sally in an Email!

Purple Cane's tea is known to be more expensive than it's quality. Can be explained with their expensive rents in shopping malls and number of staffs they have. Frankly, I was tempted by the 4 box combo packing set. Packaging win. Tea wise, I'm not really an Oolong guy, so it was ok for me.

Thanks for the Jing Dian Tea House contact. Will check them out. Will tell them my preference cause my body cannot take too roasted oolong. My throat will get irritation and may fall sick.

Right now I am drinking a glass of 1996 Chung-Cha MengHai Factory "Orange-in-Orange" aged uncooked Pu-Erh. But my favorite teas are still Oolongs.

The Wu Yi from Arbor Teas is my regular go-to tea; the taste, aroma, and mouthfeel are spectacular.

Another favorite (but expensive) Oolong is Dong Ding Ming Xiang from Teas From Taiwan. "[This] oolong tea gets its honey flavour from secretions left on it by cicadas. In order to encourage this special flavour, Dong Ding Ming Xiang wu long tea must be grown without the use of pesticides."

Red Circle Tea
2010 Emperor's Puzzle Wu Yi
sample
3.3 grams at $6

Brewed in 90ml porcelain gaiwan.
Beautiful smell.
now on fifth brew
No matter what I did this tea just did not respond.
I kept trying to tease the aroma out of the tea with no luck. I took photos but am underwhelmed to make the effort to put it up.
:(
You can decide on the value. Maybe if I stuffed it it would reveal more of the potential perceived in the smell.
Disappointing.

DHP, or 'Big Red Robe' from Tea Gallery. I like it. Something about it reminds me of a tolerable version of Dancong. Not as fruity, but...something.

Enjoyed a thermos of Alishan spring oolong today, sharing with the crew at afternoon clinic, and one of our students today asked me if I knew of Adagio--she loves the jasmine silver needle. She enjoyed the Alishan quite a bit. It was nice to share with someone who was so excited about tea! Too bad it was a one-day only visit with us.

Now enjoying some Ya Shi dan cong from Tea Habitat.

Spring 2010 Tsou ma fei Ali Shan oolong from Norbu. Good stuff, rich and deeply flavored, standing up wonderfully to a midafternoon meal featuring spicy hummus followed by spiced applesauce.

Having a sample of Sea Dyke 90's Rou Gui that I got from another forum member. All I can say is this shows cinnamon more than I have seen from any other Rou Gui, and a wonderful note of dark chocolate in the early infusions.

Trying a sample of "Premium Milk Oolong" from Dragon Tea House. I was rather overwhelmed when I opened the package by the strong aroma, and the tea was....powerful. Not quite like the sense of drinking perfume from an overdone jasmine tea, but not too dissimilar, either.

I think I will see if one of my colleagues would like the larger package that I bought of this one. Many of them enjoy flavored teas. My taste buds are still ringing.

Japanese oolong not really an oolong not really a green !? Reminds me of a pao chong but much sweeter more greener. Its sweet with a light/medium body, a subtle gardenia peeks in, a crisp fresh green finish, low to no astringency when brewed right.
